In Episode13 Hyung-Chul gives Sun-Mi a special piece of jewelry as a present for her 25th birthday. The anklet, which Sun-Mi initially mistakes for a bracelet, has a solitaire iridescent pearl, nestled in a gold-colored U-shaped setting, with a dark bead of peridot on each side, all strung on a thin silver-colored wire. Hyung-Chul tells Sun-Mi that he learned from a movie that the gift of an anklet means that they can meet in the next life.

Pearl

Birthstone for the month of June. An emblem of modesty, chastity and purity, the pearl symbolizes love, success, and happiness.

Episode 13.

Peridot

Birthstone for the month of August. According to folklore, peridot will bring its wearer success, peace, and good luck. Peridot (French for olivine) is the gem-quality, translucent variety of the mineral olivine, named for its typical olive-green color. It is a common mineral, and has been identified on the Moon, Mars, comet Wild 2, and in meteorites.

If the beads were identified as meteoric olivine it would explain Hyung-Chul’s answer to Sun-Mi’s question. (RIGHT)

“This must be a pearl. My birthstone, right?

What are these?”

“Peridot. My birthstone.

This is the only stone that came from outside Earth.

When some meteorites fell to earth some were left

unburned and landed on the ground.

Your pearl is from the bottom of the ocean

and this is from outer space.

But they’re together now
