SM Notebook - Married Life (Part 26)

Sun-Mei's throat felt uncomfortable when she woke up. Not wanting to wake the soundly asleep xue zhang, she coughed lightly but still woke him...

"What's the matter?" He frowned and looked at his darling in his embrace with uneasiness.

"Nothing, just that my throat felt sore," she answered honestly, in case xue zhang over worried again.

He touched her forehead, well, no fever, "Sure you are really alright? Why not take a day off today? Director Yin permits you a day off specially!"

"No need for that! Who needs the special privilege? Anyway, I am quite fine," she pursed her lips.

In the face of her adamant stands, he gave in and acquiesced to her wishes. Why couldn't this wife of mine be more obedient?

Later in the day, Sun-Mei completed her broadcast of the seven o'clock evening news despite her sore throat.

"Sun-Mei, you are really alright?" Xian-Da asked concernedly.

"En, I'm fine." She returned a smile, felt awful about having others always to worry for her.

The long awaited Xiang-Zhe rushed from the control room to the broadcast stand, "Still in denial? Can we process home for some rest now? What a disobedient wife!"

"Nobody is in denial," not accepting the accusation.

"Your voice has turned hoarse, still want to argue?" He tapped on her nose as a gesture of gentle rebuke.

"Won't you two lovebirds stop being mussy in front of me? Treating me as invisible hah?" Xian-Da demanded with a stern face but jokingly.

"Yap we know, we will vanish iUmmediately from your sight and continue our mussy matters at home," as he held Sun-Mei's hand preparing to leave.

"Xue zhang..." Sun-Mei was wary of her surroundings as he dragged her outside. Couldn't stand him, getting bolder in his behaviour in the company.

"Director Yin! Remember to take good care of our broadcaster Zhen, or else the audience wouldn't let you off easily..." Xian-Da shouted at their departing figures, shaking his head in amusement. Only a blind would overlook Yin Xiang-Zhe's display of deep affection for his wife...

Xiang-Zhe sent his wife into bed once they reached home. He then processed to prepare the nutritious and rich dinner of love, brought it to the bedside and intended to supervisor her while she dined.

"Come on, finish your dinner first." He assisted her to sit up and placed a pillow for better cushioning, so that she could enjoy her dinner in comfort.

"This...is too much, how can I finish them..." Sun-Mei stunned at the full tray of dishes.

"You don't have to worry about that, I'm very patient. Come on be good, open your mouth...aahh..." As if he was coaxing a child, he held a spoon of food in front of her mouth.

"I can eat by myself..." She mumbled words of protest.

"A sick person shouldn't have any complains," he ordered and fed her slowly spoon-by-spoon. With his persistent feeding, she managed to finish up all the food, not leaving any bit.

"Thank you..." Thanks for your caring, thanks for your arrogance.

"Don't have to thank me, personally prefer a practical gratitude..." He lowered his head, wanting to kiss her.

"No...Don't want! Might spread the cold virus to you!" She ducked.

"I'm in pink health, won't get infected by you..." He could expect that, never did he misjudge.

In the wee hours, two nights later, Sun-Mei was aware of some warmness around her. She opened her sleepy eyes and wondered about the increased in room temperature. It's xue zhang, his body was scorching hot, "Xue zhang! xue zhang...!" She shook him hard to wake him but to no avail. He seemed to be unconscious, unable to hear her calling.

After a night of struggle, Xiang-Zhe was finally in a stable condition. Seated by his hospital bedside, Sun-Mei felt terribly guilty and heart pained, xue zhang had cared for her endlessly for the past few days. In addition to that, he still had to handle his office work till late hours before resting. What was he thinking? That his body was made of steel like a robot?

While waiting for him to regain consciousness, she recalled the first time Xiang-Zhe waited by her bedside throughout the night. What sort of feeling did he have to spur him on to care for me? What feelings had he experienced then through those heart-stabbing times when he swore to let me go? The more she thought, the more she couldn't hold back her tears, "Xue zhang..."

Xiang-Zhe regained consciousness gradually but somehow felt unease. He seemed to hear crying from a distance, was Sun-Mei crying? What had happened? He panicked, Sun-Mei, please don't cry, I don't want you to cry?…He lifted his hand and reached out to comfort her, "Sun-Mei..."

"I'm here! Xue zhang, I'm here...!" She held him tightly, responded quickly to assure him of her presence.

"Don't cry..." As compared to your tears, my illness is nothing, your crying brought more pain than anything. Never forget this, whenever you cry, that will be the worst heartache that I will ever suffer...

"Who said I'm crying?" She wiped her tears instantly, "I'm angry! Angry that you broke your promise, angry that you didn't take good care of yourself, angry that you made me worried..."

"I'm sorry..." He caressed her face tenderly and studied her.

With his zealous glance, all the grudges that she bore had diminished into a simple sentence of "Xue zhang, I love you..."

The news of Xiang-Zhe's illness had spread throughout MBS like bees to honey, the very next day. Visitors came endlessly, filling the hospital room with flowers and fruits hampers. Sun-Mei was kept busy having to entertain the visitors and care for Xiang-Zhe...

"Are you tired?" She asked tenderly as she sat down by the bed, after a few senior managers had left.

"No, not at all. Just that I didn't get to spend some private time with you." Without much thought, he cuddled her. It didn't seem that bad after all to fall sick occasionally, meals and medicine were meticulously taken care of by my wife and on top of that, she didn't even stay far from me.

"We can spend more private time together if you recover soon, can't we?" Her finger circled on his chest.

"Yes madam!" Clinging lightly onto her waist, he shut his eyes to enjoy the touching moment. So engrossed in their own private moment that they missed the faint knocking on the door.

Xian-Da and Yong-Xi entered the room, only to find the two lovebirds in each other's embrace.

"You couple are so in love! Still so intimate when one is sick!" Xian-Da casually, not knowing how to react.

"Oooh, Qian-bei..." Sun-Mei struggled to sit up, blushing like a ripe tomato.

"No! It's our fault," Xiang-Zhe scratched his head. "I'll put up the 'Do-Not-Disturb' sign next time round."

"Xue zhang..." She had nearly fainted from the embarrassment.

"Told you to look after Sun-Mei, yet you yourself fell ill. Didn't all this end up at the same conclusion? Sun-Mei still couldn't continue with the news casting."

"Call yourself a true friend, didn’t even enquire about my illness. On the other hand, you worry about her being unable to do news casting!" Xiang-Zhe couldn't retain his amusement any longer.

"En, look at your vivacious state, there's nothing for us to worry about," Yong-Xi stood by her husband.

Due to the late and past hospital visiting hours, Xian-Da wouldn't want to 'disturb' the couple much longer, as they left, Sun-Mei also turned towards the sofa...

Xiang-Zhe griped her wrist, "Where are you going?"

"To sleep," she pointed at the sofa in the corner, "You should have an early night too."

"You have to sleep with me," he shifted his body and offered half the bed.

"No, a sick person shouldn't have any complains. Be good, sleep now...!" She let him have a taste of his medicine and lay down on the sofa.

Oh dear! Now he finally understood the unpleasantness of being sick, his precious is just so near, yet so far. So what did the witty Yin Xiang-Zhe had in mind?

"Aiya......" He decided to cheat by faking his pain...

"What happen? Which part of you is unwell?" The naive Sun-Mei walked directly into his trap, rushed to his bed and checked out his pained expressions, nervously.

"My whole body is unwell..." He pulled her onto him and refused to let go.

"You liar!" She stared at him crossly, making her worry for nothing.

"I didn't lie to you, you know I've to cuddle you every night, in order to sleep. That has developed into a habit..." He looked as if he had gone through dramatic traumas.

"But...what if the nurse saw us?" She reminded him.

"So? Let them see. I can't be bothered anymore, I'm not going to sleep without you," he said in an alluring tone.

"Alright..." She gave in and lay down warily, "but you are not to misbehave."

"Misbehave?" He raised his eyebrows, his eyes already filled with mischief, "Don't worry, I promise only to hug you to sleep, definitely won't misbehave..."

The usually stern-looking Director Yin, behaved like a child when he's sick. Not only did he require coaxing and caring, he also had mischief up his sleeves. Only 'innocent' people like Sun-Mei would fall for his trick, for his 'promise'...
