Merger Yun Hyung Chul and Zhen San Mi

The morning following Hyung Chul’s proposal, Sun Mi got ready to leave for MBS. She was a bit apprehensive about how she was going to tell everyone that she would not be going to England and how she was to break the news that she would be getting married in a month’s time. Everyone would probably think that is a shotgun marriage and it would all be Hyung Chul’s fault because, no matter how she tried to persuade him on giving her more time, he refused to budge from his decision.

“Director Yun, what a stubborn man you are!” she had voiced out her exasperation while seeing him to his car last night. As annoyed as she was at him, she did not realize that she was calling him Director Yun again.

The subject in question had merely shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly...

 “Call me what you like, but we are getting married in one month’s time and that’s that! I’ll brook no more arguments on this, because I’m not giving you a chance to get cold feet and renege on your promise to marry me. If you try to back out, I promise you, that you would not have liked what I would do to you. I would come to your house, truss you up like meat, carry you off to my home, before you can even shout out to your father to save you”.

Hyung Chul flicked at SM’s nose and continued, “In fact, if not for the fact that I respect your father, I would have liked us to get married next week!”

Before she could say anymore, he silenced her lips with his own, got into his car and sped off. Looking in the mirror and seeing a glowering Sun Mi standing there with her mouth opening and closing wordlessly, like a fish gulping for air, Hyung Chul could not help laughing out loud.

The next morning, just as Sun Mi stepped out of her house, she saw Hyung Chul leaning against his car waiting for her. She was surprised, as he did not tell her he was picking her up.

“Sanbaeneem, what are you doing here?” Sun Mi glared at Hyung Chul suspiciously, wondering what he has up his sleeve this time.

Hyung Chul raised his eyebrows quizzically at her, “What do you mean what I’m doing here? Can’t I pick up my fiancé?” thinking at the same time that Sun Mi looked so beautiful this morning, sporting a special glow on her face. Before she could stop him, he enveloped her in a tender embrace and kissed her tenderly.

Sun Mi quickly looked around and saw that fortunately, no one was around at that early hour in the morning.

Hyung Chul led her into his car and told her in a more serious tone, “Sun Mi, I know you are worried about what you’re to tell everyone this morning, so I have decided to come and pick you up. You don’t have to explain anything to anyone. Just leave everything to me. But from now on, I’ll hold your hand when I want to, hug you when I want to, kiss you when I want to and I don’t care who is there to see it. I’m not going to hide my feelings or my love for you and I want you to do the same, because today, this morning, I am going to announce our marriage”.

Hyung Chul looked questioningly at Sun Mi and waited for her response.

For a minute, Sun Mi did not know what to say, but seeing the look in Hyung Chul’s eyes, she spoke softly to him, “Sanbaeneem, I give you my solemn promise, but I don’t want you to kiss me in front of anybody, otherwise all of them would not have any mercy on me and would not stop teasing me”.

By them, Hyung Chul understands that Sun Mi means the gang in her group. Hyung Chul pretended to be indignant, “They dare to laugh at my fiancée? Call me when they tease you and I’ll come immediately to fire them!”

Sun Mi giggled at the mock anger on Hyung Chul’s face.

The minute they stepped into the foyer of MBS, Hyung Chul took the first step of pronouncing their relationship by holding on to Sun Mi’s hand and when Sun Mi tried to pull her hand back, he wagged a finger at her as if to say, “Remember your promise?” and Sun Mi had no choice but to let him. Everyone stopped in their tracks when they saw the Director of Planning holding the hand of MBS’ news anchor who was supposed to leave for England this morning.

Sun Mi, who has always been afraid of unnecessary attention and gossip, was quite embarrassed by all the looks directed at him. On the other hand, Hyung Chul was unfazed by the attention and when he saw his assistant waiting for him by the lift, he introduced Sun Mi as his fiancée.

Everyone at the newsroom was surprised to see Sun Mi back at MBS and even more surprised when they saw Hyung Chul with her.

But before they could even utter a word, Hyung Chul told them, “Sun Mi is not going to England after all because, she is going to marry me. Consider yourself invited to the wedding next month!”

Huh… everyone just stood with their with mouths agape, shock registered on their faces, not so much from surprise that Director Yun and Sun Mi were getting married but, that they were doing so in one month? How is Sun Mi going to get everything ready in one month! Is this a shotgun marriage and all eyes went to Sun Mi’s tummy.

Hyung Chul clapped his hands lightly to regain their attention – “If you all decide to tease my fiancee, you have to answer to me, understand?” and left the newsroom.

Hyung Chul smiled at the pandemonium created by his announcement and went back to his office, called his secretary and P.A. and instructed them on what to do. Due to the short notice, he wanted his secretary to call a wedding planner to arrange everything to ease Sun Mi’s hassles, as she has enough to see to already. As he knows that Zhao Di is Sun Mi’s closest friend, he called Zhao Di personally to inform her the news and to ask her to help Sun Mi with her wedding trousseau. Zhao Di was more than happy to oblige.

Hyung Chul then instructed his P.A. to call a meeting with the Directors and heads of departments to make his announcement and to issue a press statement to the news agencies to whom he had promised an exclusive of his wedding announcement.

The news of the impending nuptials of Wen Rong’s heir to MBS anchor knocked all other news off the headlines. Hyung Chul laughed when he read of some of the headlines – “MBS ANCHOR NETS WEN RONG HEIR”, “YUN HYUNG CHUL GIVES UP M.E.B. (Most Eligible Bachelor) TITLE”, “WEN RONG HEIR SETS WEDDING DATE”, etc.

The P.R. department has proposed an exclusive live interview for Hyung Chul and Sun Mi, as their marriage would be a good way to raise the station’s ratings. As Director of Planning, Hyung Chul feels obligated to accept the proposal but first, he has to talk Sun Mi into agreeing and knowing Sun Mi, it would be no easy task.

The minute he told her, she paled “Ha?” the same expression she used when he told her he wanted to introduce her to his father during Wen Rong’s 20th anniversary dinner.

“No, no, Sanbaeneem, I can’t” she insisted.

“Why not? You have done it before with Yung Mei. What’s there to be scared of?” Hyung Chul wanted to know.

“That was different because with Yung Mei, I knew what to expect and I was more or less prepared. But with you, what if you do or say something to embarrass me, huh?” Sun Mi pouted.

Is it what her argument is about? “My sweet Sun Mi, I would never do or say anything to embarrass you. Alright, to put your mind at ease, tell me now what you do not want me to do or say? If I think your request is reasonable, I won’t disagree.”

Sun Mi looked at Hyung Chul as if disbelieving what he said “You mean it?”

Hyung Chul – “Have I ever lied to you?”

Sun Mi had to take his word for it and told me firmly “You must behave yourself and not talk intimately about our relationship. Do not make silly jokes, okay?”

Hyung Chul said with tongue-in-cheek, “Fine, I promise”.

The day of the interview came too soon and on that day, everything seems to have come to a standstill. The studio was filled to capacity because everyone seems to have turned up to witness the interview and who can blame them? Hyung Chul and Sun Mi’s romance was the talk of the country, with everyone eager to hear the romantic story from the two lovebirds.

The program host was none other than the PR Manager and the set and atmosphere were specifically designed in an informal way to put the couple, especially Sun Mi, at ease. The host started the program by welcoming the audience and gave them a brief run-up of Hyung Chul, son of the Chairman of Wen Rong group of companies and Director of Planning of MBS. An introduction of Zhen Sun Mi was not necessary as an anchor of MBS, everyone knows her very well.

“Folks, let us welcome, Director Yun Hyung Chul and Ms. Zhen Sun Mi” and everyone clapped heartily.

Hyung Chul emerged from the background holding Sun Mi’s hand. Both were casually dressed, with Hyung Chul in a polo-necked cream jumper with suede brown jacket and Sun Mi in a light yellow long sleeve blouse tucked in black satin pants. They were a beautiful and matching couple and everyone present could not take their eyes off the glowing couple.

“Congratulations, Director Yun and Ms. Zhen”. The host shook the couple’s hands and continued, “Well, Director. I’m sure you know that everyone is very interested in hearing about your romance with Ms. Zhen Sun Mi, our popular anchor. Is it true that you were both first acquainted six years ago, in England, before you joined MBS?”

Hyung Chul looked directly at the host and replied, “Yes, its true. I was still in Cambridge University and Sun Mi was in England for several months to learn English and we met or to be more accurate, ‘collided’. You see, she was thinking about something and not watching where she was going and walked in front of my car”.

Hyung Chul looked at Sun Mi who elbowed him in the ribs. The dynamic and handsome Hyung Chul’s had everyone hanging onto his every word. All the women present were actually green with envy at Sun Mi’s good fortune.

The host turned to Sun Mi and was not going to let her off easily, “Ms. Zhen, we all remember that during your last live interview with Ms. Huh Young Mi, you said you did not have a boyfriend when you must have been dating Director Yun even then. Can you explain why you said that?”

Sun Mi blushed and hesitated, “It's not that I deliberately misled the viewers, but at that time, I was not in a position to reveal our relationship.”

In reality, they had both decided to break up.

Hyung Chul came to her rescue, “Actually, my fiancée said that to protect me from getting unnecessary publicity”.

Sun Mi looked gratefully at Hyung Chul.

After more questions about their impending nuptials, the host posed a question to Hyung Chul – “Director Yun, what do you consider to be your greatest achievement?”.

This time, Hyung Chul turned to Sun Mi, kissed her hand and said “My greatest achievement is winning the love of Ms. Zhen Sun Mi. I fell in love with her at Heathrow airport on the day she returned to Korea and pursued her for 6 years. I am glad that I never gave up trying to win her heart. If not for my persistence, she would not have agreed to marry me”.

Sun Mi’s eyes shone with tears for Hyung Chul had never told her when he fell in love with her and although embarrassed at his direct declaration, she was also moved by his words.

Hyung Chul completely forgot about his promise to behave himself, forgot the audience and the camera and hugged Sun Mi.

The thunderous clapping from the audience brought them back to earth and Hyung Chul reluctantly released Sun Mi. The ladies all sighed enviously and shed tears of happiness for the dashing prince who finally won the heart of his beloved princess.
