Act 2

SCENE: Seoul, outside Mr. Jin's apartment building, morning

SCENE: Seoul, inside Young-Mi's studio, morning

Woo-Jin is eating with Young-Mi in her studio.

Woo-Jin............ Thanks for breakfast. I needed a quick pick-me-up.

Young-Mi.......... (scolding tone) Why stay up all night? Aren't you working too hard?

Woo-Jin............ Those prints are due at the publisher this afternoon. If they're late, I don't get paid.

Young-Mi.......... Still, you have to take care of your health first.

Woo-Jin............ Don't worry. I'll be fine... Hey, want to go out tonight?

Young-Mi.......... We can't... I'm making dinner for Mr. Jin tonight, and you have to be there, too.

Woo-Jin............ Dinner?

Young-Mi.......... Now that I've finished my first semester, I want to show appreciation by doing something for him, too.

Woo-Jin............ Who else are you inviting?

Young-Mi.......... Jun-Mo, and your mom. I want her to know I'm not the kind of person she saw that night.

She looks away and sighs...

Young-Mi.......... I want her to see that I can be just as good a person as Sun-Mi, so she'll accept me.

Woo-Jin............ You don't need to do that! You are you, and Sun-Mi is Sun-Mi, and that's all right.

Young-Mi.......... I appreciate that, but not everyone thinks like you. I feel like I always have to prove myself to people.

Woo-Jin............ Well, not to me.

Young-Mi looks up and checks the time...

Young-Mi.......... Oh! ... I have to get going, or I'll be late for work. I don't want to look irresponsible to Manager Kim, too.

Woo-Jin............ Don't worry, there's plenty of time if I drive you. Can I use your bathroom for a shower first?

Young-Mi.......... Sure. Go ahead. I'll clean up here.

Woo-Jin goes into the bathroom and closes the door.

Young-Mi starts collecting the dishes, when Woo-Jin's mobile starts ringing...

SPLIT SCENES: London, Sun-Mi's room, night / Seoul, Young-Mi's studio, morning

Sun-Mi is in her bedroom, with the telephone handset to her ear.

Young-Mi.......... (on the phone) Hello?

When Sun-Mi hears Young-Mi's voice, she appears puzzled.

Sun-Mi.............. Young-Mi?

Young-Mi.......... Oh, is it you, Sun-Mi?

Sun-Mi.............. But... why are you answering Woo-Jin's phone this early in the morning?

Young-Mi.......... Woo-Jin just had breakfast here with me.

Sun-Mi.............. (firmly) I want to speak to Woo-Jin.

Young-Mi.......... Woo-Jin can't talk now, he's in the shower.

Sun-Mi.............. What?

Young-Mi.......... Woo-Jin was working late, working on a project in his studio. So afterward, he came up to my place...

Sun-Mi.............. (wondering) You mean... He crashed at your place, instead of going home?

Young-Mi flashes a devious grin as an idea comes to her...

Young-Mi.......... Actually, as it turned out, neither of us slept a wink.

Hearing this, and reading between the lines with her own imagination, Sun-Mi is shocked and irate...

Sun-Mi.............. Huh Young-Mi! Are you saying, that you and Woo...

Young-Mi.......... (interrupting) Sorry, I don't have time to chat now. We're running late for work. So... bye.

Sun-Mi.............. Wait...

With a click, the line goes dead.

SCENE: Seoul, MBS tape editing room, morning

Young-Mi is tagging video tapes when Sun-Dal walks into the room.

Sun-Dal............ Young-Mi, you're early.

Young-Mi.......... Yes, did you just arrive?

Sun-Dal stands staring at Young-Mi.

Young-Mi reacts self-consciously...

Young-Mi.......... What is it? Is there something on my face?

She goes back to her work.

Sun-Dal............ Oh no, I wanted to get some coffee, but I'm out of change.

He smiles as he reaches into his pockets.

Sun-Dal............ Would you lend me some?

Young-Mi.......... Sure.

She gets her purse.

Young-Mi.......... You must have gone drinking last night.

He puts his hand to his chin.

Sun-Dal............ Can you tell?

Young-Mi.......... Then drink something other than coffee.

She hands Sun-Dal the coins and goes back to tagging the tape.

Sun-Dal............ The truth is...we went to a "Girly Bar" yesterday.

Young-Mi continues to work as she replies...

Young-Mi.......... You go to places like that?

Sun-Dal............ (quietly) If the other women find out, there'd be trouble.

Joo-Hee walks into the room and stands at the door, watching Sun-Dal and Young-Mi.

Sun-Dal............ Keep it a secret from them, specifically Yoo Joo-Hee.

Joo-Hee knocks on the door.

He turns around and is surprised to see Joo-Hee.

Sun-Dal............ Ohh!!

Joo-Hee............ I heard it all.

Sun-Dal............ When did you get here?

Joo-Hee............ From now on, we'll leave you out of the dinner parties.

Joo-Hee turns to leave. Sun-Dal hurries over to her.

Sun-Dal............ Hey, that's not fair. Who's idea is that?...

Joo-Hee looks at Sun-Dal seriously.

Sun-Dal............ Don't tell anyone I said anything. Do me the favor.

He looks at her repentantly.

Joo-Hee clears her throat and turns to walk away.

Sun-Dal glances at Young-Mi, then turns to follow Joo-Hee.

Sun-Dal............ Joo-Hee.

He turns back to Young-Mi.

Sun-Dal............ Young-Mi, thanks for the change... Hey, Joo-Hee! Come on!

Young-Mi goes back to her work when her phone rings.

Young-Mi.......... Who is it?

SCENE: London, on the Motorway, morning

The car wipers beat a steady rhythm, clearing rain spatters from the BMW's windscreen on a gloomy, overcast morning.

Hyung-Chul focuses on maneuvering in the heavy traffic as they drive north on M11 out of London to Cambridge.

He casts a brief glance at Sun-Mi, and sees that she is deep in thought...

Sun-Mi stares out the passenger window, her brow creased with worry, pondering what she'd heard the night before...

Young-Mi.......... Woo-Jin came up to my place. Actually, as it turned out, neither of us slept a wink ...

She sighs deeply, remembering her nightmare...

Sun-Mi.............. (mumbling to herself) Could it be true?

FLASHBACK [Scene from the previous Episode, when Sun-Mi is dreaming]

Hyung-Chul....... You're quiet this morning. Is something troubling you, Sun-Mi?

Sun-Mi.............. (bothered) It's nothing.

Hyung-Chul....... More bad news from Seoul?

She forces a smile to her face...

Sun-Mi.............. Really, it's nothing. I was just preoccupied, working out my plans for today.

Hyung-Chul....... Oh?

Sun-Mi.............. I need to buy gifts before I leave. Could you go shopping with me?

SCENE: Seoul, in a cafe, afternoon

Young-Mi and In-Soo are at a table in a cafe.

In-Soo.............. Young-Mi, if I let you rest for a couple days, you should come to me, instead of having me come to you.

She looks at him defiantly.

In-Soo.............. That's not how the world is.

Young-Mi.......... I already told you. I'm not going a second time.

In-Soo.............. Well, as it happens, you can go a second or third time.

He laughs...

In-Soo.............. Why are you being so stubborn?

Young-Mi gives In-Soo the "Evil eye" and he looks down unhappily.

In-Soo.............. OK, OK.

Young-Mi.......... I'm not going there anymore. I mean it. Don't try to persuade me.

In-Soo.............. Geez. You must've saved up a lot of money.

Young-Mi looks down at the table.

Young-Mi.......... I'm not like you, with only one option. If I tutor kids, I get enough spending money.

....................... I should've done that from the start. I lost sight of that.

In-Soo laughs.

In-Soo.............. Wow, Huh Young-Mi.

He reaches over to touch her chin.

In-Soo.............. What is this? If you're going to be like this, then I'm going to tell everything about your past.

She half-smiles and speaks softly but firmly.

Young-Mi.......... Go ahead.

In-Soo looks up amazed, almost dropping the cigarette from his mouth.

Young-Mi.......... I know I'm not a princess who grew up in a castle. Even if you came, you'd just be verifying that.

In-Soo takes the cigarette from his mouth.

In-Soo.............. Huh Young-Mi. Why aren't you acting like yourself?

Young-Mi.......... You have nothing left to lose. Same with me.

SCENE: Seoul, market, afternoon

Young-Mi is at the market shopping for groceries.

Young-Mi.......... Miss!

SCENE: Cambridge, Rose Crescent, morning

Sun-Mi and Hyung-Chul are walking together down the lane as she window-shops.

Hyung-Chul....... You cut class to go shopping? What will your Aunt think?

Sun-Mi.............. It's just one day. Anyway, Professor Robinson is so boring, I'd probably be nodding off right now.

Hyung-Chul....... What are you going to buy?

Sun-Mi.............. I'm not sure. But it has to be special.

Hyung-Chul....... Special?

Sun-Mi.............. For a certain special person... That's why I need your help.

SCENE: Seoul, Jin-Suk's L-25 shop, afternoon

Young-Mi comes into the shop and smiles at Jin-Suk.

Young-Mi.......... Hello?

Jin-Suk glances at Young-Mi but keeps on working.

Jin-Suk............. What's the occasion?

Young-Mi.......... I'm sorry about last time.

Jin-Suk looks up at Young-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... I won't do it again.

Jin-Suk sighs.

Jin-Suk............. See, if you listen to your elders things will work out well. Would I have said that to hurt you? I'm not evil.

Young-Mi smiles at her.

Young-Mi.......... I know... Mr. Jin is coming up today. I'm hoping to prepare a meal. If you have the time, please come.

Jin-Suk............. All right, I'll see if I can come.

Young-Mi.......... All right. Then I'll see you later. Good bye.

SCENE: Cambridge, Ryder & Amies University Store, morning

Sun-Mi is shopping for gifts at Ryder & Amies' venerable store on King's Parade, in business for over 150 years.

She holds a dark green sweatshirt with a Cambridge logo up in front of Hyung-Chul, inspecting it carefully.

He grins jauntily at her...

Hyung-Chul....... This looks good on me, huh?

Sun-Mi.............. Umm... Let's try another one.

Hyung-Chul....... (grumbling) You must've tried the whole store already! When is it enough?

She smiles at his impatience...

Sun-Mi.............. Stop complaining... It's only been a dozen or so. Just one more?

He nods reluctantly.

She puts the sweatshirt down, then picks up a white one and tries it against him.

Sun-Mi.............. Nope... this isn't it either. Let's try someplace else.

He looks at her, frustrated...

Hyung-Chul....... After all that, you're not going to buy anything?

Sun-Mi.............. I said, it has to be special...

SCENE: Seoul, Jin home, afternoon

Young-Mi enters Gwi-Sung's house with the groceries and takes them to the kitchen.

She suddenly has an idea and goes up the stairs.

SCENE: Seoul, Sun-Mi's bedroom, afternoon

Young-Mi looks through Sun-Mi's jewelry and makeup, and tries some perfume.

Then she goes over to the wardrobe and starts browsing through the hanging clothes.

Noticing one dress in particular, she takes it down for a better look.

The Young-Mi tries it on, observing her reflection in the wall-mounted mirror.

[O.S. Sound of a doorbell ring]

At first Young-Mi worries at being found out, then decides to boldly go to the door with Sun-Mi's dress on.

SCENE: Cambridge, Marr's Leather Shop, morning

Hyung-Chul poses in a long, brown leather jacket, as Sun-Mi considers the style.

She shakes her head.

Sun-Mi.............. Nope. Wrong color.

Next, he models a black biker jacket.

Hyung-Chul....... Well?

Sun-Mi.............. It's not right, either.

Hyung-Chul....... (tiredly) You're so particular! So much trouble for just one gift.

Sun-Mi.............. (patiently) It can't be just any gift. That's because a gift has to suit the giver too.

Hyung-Chul takes off the jacket, as Sun-Mi browses through a rack of similar jackets.

Sun-Mi.............. Is there another one?

Hyung-Chul....... I think we've tried every jacket in the shop.

Sun-Mi.............. Then we'll just have to look somewhere else...

SCENE: Seoul, Jin home, evening

Young-Mi greets Gwi-Sung at the vestibule door as he comes into the room.

Young-Mi.......... Sir, you're home!

Gwi-Sung.......... Oh, Young-Mi, you came.

Young-Mi.......... Yes, I wanted to cook cold noodles. You're hot, right?

Gwi-Sung.......... But it's a relief that the weather cooled down a bit.

They walk into the room and he notices the dress on Young-Mi with surprise.

Young-Mi acts a little embarrassed.

Young-Mi.......... It's Sun-Mi's. It was so pretty that I tried it on.

Gwi-Sung.......... Oh really? It looks good on you.

Young-Mi smiles happily at the compliment.

Young-Mi.......... Honestly?

Gwi-Sung.......... Before dinner, I should take a shower.

Gwi-Sung turns to go to his room.

Young-Mi.......... Yes, please hurry.

Gwi-Sung closes the door behind him just as Jin-Suk comes in through the vestibule door.

Young-M........... Miss.

Jin-Suk............. Did Mr. Jin arrive?

Young-Mi gestures to the door of Gwi-Sung's room...

Young-Mi.......... Yes, he just came. He's taking a shower.

They walk into the kitchen together.

Jin-Suk............. I brought some kimchi for the noodles.

Young-Mi.......... That's great! Wow!

Then Jin-Suk notices the dress.

Jin-Suk............. Young-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... Yes?

Jin-Suk............. This outfit...

Young-Mi.......... Ah, it's Sun-Mi's, but Mr. Jin said it looked good on me.

Young-Mi smiles, hoping for Jin-Suk's approval, too.

Instead, Jin-Suk looks around mumbling something and looking upset.

Young-Mi.......... Is something the matter?

Jin-Suk............. I bought this outfit for Sun-Mi.

Young-Mi starts to take off the dress, letting it drop to the floor.

Jin-Suk looks at her, confused...

Jin-Suk............. What are you doing?

Young-Mi steps out of the dress.

Jin-Suk............. What? What are you doing?

Young-Mi forces a smile.

Young-Mi.......... I'll go put it back.

Jin-Suk mouth open in amazement as she watches Young-Mi go up the stairs.

Jin-Suk............. Oh my! Why that little...

Young-Mi has a look of disgust on her face as throws the dress, all wadded up, into the wardrobe.

She sits on Sun-Mi's bed, smiling to herself about the distress she caused Jin-Suk and the next plot she is hatching.

SCENE: Seoul, Gwi-Sung's bedroom, evening

Jin-Suk is in Gwi-Sung's bedroom, complaining about Young-Mi...

Jin-Suk............. Can't you do something about her?

Gwi-Sung.......... What?

He opens a bottle of aftershave and begins shaking some drops out onto his palm.

Jin-Suk............. Men really have no idea!

He puts down the bottle to look over at her.

Gwi-Sung.......... No, what?

Jin-Suk............. (frustrated) Drop it, let's just drop it.

Gwi-Sung.......... Oh, geez.

Gwi-Sung slaps the aftershave lotion on his face.

Jin-Suk............. (mocking Gwi-Sung) Oh, geez.

Frustrated, Jin-Suk leaves the room.

SCENE: Cambridge, inside a shop, afternoon

Sun-Mi and Hyung-Chul are looking at a display case of wristwatches.

A young female clerk come over to greet them...

Clerk................ (brightly, in English) Hello, may I help you?

Sun-Mi points to several of the watches in the case.

Sun-Mi.............. (in heavily accented English) May I see those?

Clerk................ (in English) These four?

Sun-Mi nods.

The clerk takes the watches out and places them on the glass cabinet top.

Bored, Hyung-Chul is looking around the shop disinterestedly, lost in his own thoughts.

As Sun-Mi examines the watches, without looking she reaches out, searching for his arm.

Then she looks, and sees that he is not where he was a moment ago.

Sun-Mi.............. (annoyed) I need your wrist, Senior!

She takes a step and grabs his arm, pulling him with her, but he resists.

Hyung-Chul....... Again?

Sun-Mi.............. Don't be so grouchy. You said you'd help... so help!

Reluctantly, he allows her to use his wrist as a modeling display for the watches.

Sun-Mi tries each watch over his wrist, looking undecided.

The clerk looks on, hoping for a sale...

Clerk................ (in English) Miss, if I can be of any help...

Sun-Mi.............. (in heavily accented English) Sorry! This will take the time.

She tugs at Hyung-Chul's arm to get his attention.

Sun-Mi.............. Which looks best? This one?

Hyung-Chul shrugs.

Hyung-Chul....... It's all the same to me.

She drops his wrist, exasperated...

Sun-Mi.............. You're no help!

Hyung-Chul's immediately points to another wristwatch inside the display case.

Hyung-Chul....... Okay. How about that one?

When Sun-Mi sees the price tag, she is shocked...

Sun-Mi.............. This one? Why?

Hyung-Chul....... It suits me best.

She eyes him incredulously.

Sun-Mi.............. Humph... So arrogant! Do you think I'm buying this for you?

Sun-Mi turns and smiles at the clerk.

Sun-Mi.............. (in heavily accented English) May I see the other watch now?

SCENE: Seoul, Jin home, evening

Young-Mi, Jun-Mo, Woo-Jin, Gwi-Sung, and Jin-Suk are eating dinner at the dining table.

Gwi-Sung.......... So refreshing! Jun-Mo you have good luck with food.

Jun-Mo clears his throat loudly.

Jun-Mo............. Sir, this isn't just cold noodles.

Young-Mi smiles at the compliment.

Jin-Suk looks up at Young-Mi.

Young-Mi and Woo-Jin exchange furtive smiles.

Gwi-Sung.......... Then it is Chinese noodles?

Jun-Mo............. It's amazing!

Gwi-Sun and Jun-Mo laugh.

Jun-Mo............. I think I have to reconsider.

Jin-Suk............. What?

Jun-Mo gestures towards Young-Mi.

Jun-Mo............. I claimed her first but it looks like Woo-Jin's claiming her.

Young-Mi appears uncomfortable at what he's saying.

Jun-Mo............. So I conceded.

Jin-Suk looks over at Woo-Jin, and he looks back uneasily.

Jun-Mo............. But as I eat these noodles, I get the feeling that I shouldn't give up on her.

Gwi-Sung.......... (jokingly) It must be so difficult.

Jun-Mo laughs.

Jun-Mo............. Well, no matter how well educated, you can't live with a woman who can't cook.

Gwi-Sung and Jun-Mo laugh.

Jun-Mo............. (to Woo-Jin) If I won't back down what are you gonna do about it?

Woo-Jin looks at Jin-Suk before answering, then clears his throat...

Woo-Jin............ What's the matter with you? Did you get drunk off the noodles?

Jun-Mo laughs again.

Young-Mi smiles.

Young-Mi.......... I prepared fruits with punch for dessert. Please wait a moment.

She gets up from the table.

Jun-Mo............. Fruits with punch? Yum!

He puts his hands up, into fists in a "Yes" gesture.

Jin-Suk............. If you like her that much you should propose.

Jun-Mo............. Huh? Could I really?... I'd feel bad. You're hogging her too much.

Woo-Jin............ Come on man, lay off.

Jin-Suk............. Woo-Jin's got a long way to go. He's too young.

....................... Also, since our Woo-Jin doesn't have a father, I'm going to send him some place up north.

Jun-Mo acts excited.

Jun-Mo............. Huh? Are you really going to do that for me? Young-Mi! You heard it too, right?

Young-Mi looks at Jun-Mo and smiles shyly.

Jun-Mo............. You heard what she said, right? Now you have to dream of me.

Jun-Mo gestures to himself and laughs.

Gwi-Sung.......... Kid, drop photography and be a comedian.

Jun-Mo and Gwi-Sung laugh.

Young-Mi smiles to herself, then turns serious as she looks at Woo-Jin.

SCENE: Cambridge, on the street, afternoon

Outside on the street, Sun-Mi is carrying a small shopping bag.

Hyung-Chul....... Finally! Why is it so much work, for just one little present?

Sun-Mi.............. It's not easy, finding the right gift suitable for both the giver and receiver.

Hyung-Chul....... What about your life savior?

She frowns, thinking about Young-Mi...

Sun-Mi.............. I'm not sure what to buy. I don't really know her that well.

Hyung-Chul....... Then are we finished?

Sun-Mi.............. I still need to get something for my friend, Jo Cho-Jeh.

Hyung-Chul....... (wearily) Haven't we done enough shopping for one day?

Sun-Mi.............. What's wrong, Senior?

Hyung-Chul....... I'm tired of being treated like a mannequin on display...

Sun-Mi.............. Huh?

Hyung-Chul....... It's a little embarrassing, actually.

Hearing this, she smiles...

Sun-Mi.............. (effusively) Oh! ... But you did a great job!

He looks over at her, doubtful...

Hyung-Chul....... You're joking with me, right?

Her eyes sparkle mischievously...

Sun-Mi.............. Hmmm... am I?

He thinks of a way to avoid more shopping...

Hyung-Chul....... It's way past lunch time... Let's take a break.

Sun-Mi.............. Sorry, I was so engrossed, I forgot about that.

Hyung-Chul....... No bother. I'll buy....

Sun-Mi.............. No... You've been such a good sport. I should buy.

She grabs his arm and gives him a bright smile.

Hyung-Chul....... Where are we going? Hamburgers?

Sun-Mi.............. Nope... Something more expensive... Ramen.

Hyung-Chul....... We could go to a better place.

Sun-Mi.............. But I need to save my money for gifts....

She pulls him along again, leading the way.

Sun-Mi.............. Like I was saying, we still have a lot more shopping to do...

SCENE: Seoul, on the street near Young-Mi's studio, night

After the dinner party ended, Woo-Jin is walking Young-Mi home.

Young-Mi.......... Was my cooking good?

Woo-Jin............ Yeah. When did you learn to cook?

Young-Mi.......... Learn? It's part of my daily life. Who would do it for me? I'm alone.

Woo-Jin............ I'd like it if you were this big.

Woo-Jin puts his hand around his other wrist.

Woo-Jin............ I want to keep you in my pocket and buy delicious things for you, and make you happy every day.

Young-Mi looks Woo-Jin appreciatively.

Woo-Jin............ For all the time you spent crying, I want to make you laugh.

They exchange pregnant glances, and Young-Mi guesses he wants to kiss her...

But instead, she uses this as an opportunity to spring her plot of putting a wedge between Woo-Jin and his mother...

Young-Mi.......... I'm afraid of your mother. I want to break up.

Woo-Jin is stunned and speechless.

Young-Mi.......... You know me. It's hard enough for me to support myself.

....................... I don't have the will to take care of someone who doesn't like me.

They sit down on a bench near the sidewalk.

Woo-Jin............ I can persuade my mom. If I like it, my mom won't disapprove forever.

Young-Mi.......... Do you know what happened earlier? Mr. Jin gave me Sun-Mi's dress to wear.

....................... But she told me to take it off since she bought it for Sun-Mi.

....................... Do you know how humiliated I was?... She won't disapprove forever?

Young-Mi shakes her head...

Young-Mi.......... You don't know her that well.

Woo-Jin is surprised when he hears what happened...

Woo-Jin............ My mom... my mom really did that?

He looks directly at Young-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... She hates me no matter what. And you're the son who means the world to her.

Woo-Jin looks away, not knowing what to say.

Young-Mi.......... I want to go inside now.

Young-Mi touches Woo-Jin's cheek, then Woo-Jin takes her hand in his.

SCENE: Seoul, at Young-Mi's studio, night

Young-Mi unlocks her studio apartment door, and then turns to speak to Woo-Jin ...

Young-Mi ......... Thanks for sending me.

Woo-Jin............ I don't want to break up. Just give my Mom more time. She'll come around.

Young-Mi.......... But she wants Sun-Mi for a daughter-in-law, not me. (sighs) Why is Sun-Mi so lucky?

Woo-Jin............ Don't be jealous of Sun-Mi. It's my mother, not her.

Young-Mi.......... (grumbling) I suppose you're right... Well, goodnight...

Woo-Jin............ Goodnight, Young-Mi.

Young-Mi starts to go in, then remembers...

Young-Mi.......... Oh, I almost forgot. Sun-Mi called this morning, while you were in the shower.

Woo-Jin............ (surprised) She did? ... Why?

Young-Mi.......... She didn't say. Since I had to get ready for work, we didn't chat long.

Woo-Jin............ Did she want me to call back?

Young-Mi.......... If it's important, I'm sure she'll call again.

Woo-Jin............ Right... Well, see ya tomorrow afternoon.

Young-Mi frowns slightly...

Young-Mi.......... Aren't you forgetting something?

Woo-Jin............ Huh?

She reaches up to put her arms around his neck.

He wonders what she is doing.

Young-Mi.......... Since we're not breaking up, isn't this how we should say goodnight?

Then Young-Mi takes the initiative... and kisses him...

SCENE: Seoul, in Jin-Suk's bedroom, night

Jin-Suk is reading in bed when Woo-Jin storms into the room.

Jin-Suk............. Did you just get back?

Woo-Jin............ Mom, how could you do that?

....................... Even if you bought it for Sun-Mi, if Mr. Jin gave it to Young-Mi to wear, then that's it.

....................... How could you make her take it off?

Jin-Suk tries to get some words out.

Jin-Suk............. What? Did she say I made her take it off?

Woo-Jin............ Do you think I don't know you? You must really hate her to make her take it off.

Jin-Suk............. Hey, tell me honestly, did she say I made her take it off?

Jin-Suk is getting angry.

Woo-Jin............ That's not important whether she was forced or not. Why did you say you bought it for Sun-Mi?

....................... That's worse than telling her to take it off.

Jin-Suk looks flustered.

Woo-Jin............ Young-Mi already feels guilty. You don't have to help and like her, but do you have to do that to her?

Her irritation over Young-Mi heating up, Jin-Suk fans herself with her hand.

Jin-Suk............. Hey, how did you turn out like this?

Woo-Jin............ Mom, you should act like an adult.

He turns abruptly and leaves the room, slamming the door.

Jin-Suk throws her book down in frustration.

SCENE: Seoul, in Young-Mi's studio, night

Young-Mi is reading a book as she reclines on her bed.

She appears pleased that her plot is working, and she is sowing discord between Woo-Jin and his mother.

SCENE: London, Gwi-Sun's backyard, night

Sun-Mi comes out onto the backyard patio, carrying a coffee mug.

She sits at the patio table to think.

Contemplative, she rehashes the incident that changed everything between herself, Young-Mi, and Woo-Jin...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 2, in Sun-Mi's bedroom]

Sun-Mi comes into her room to see Young-Mi and Woo-Jin together after eavesdropping on their conversation.

Sun-Mi........ It's OK to like Woo-Jin. Don't hold back because of me. You don't have to.

................. Woo-Jin and I have known each other for a long time... too long. Don't feel sorry for me...

She sips her coffee, worrying...

Sun-Mi.............. (aloud to herself) Young-Mi will stoop to any level to steal Woo-Jin away. What if it's too late?

She sighs longingly...

Sun-Mi.............. I'm so pathetic! How could I let that girl come in and play her tricks... give up and run away like an idiot?

Sun-Mi looks up into the night sky at the stars, recalling what Sister Agnes had told her on the flight into London...

Sister Agnes.....(voiceover)

... 'You can't force one person to love another. It always takes two to make love work' ...

... 'It doesn't matter how hard one side tries, when the other isn't willing, it's useless' ...

... 'If it's really True Love, you said no one can come between you, right?' ...

Sun-Mi.............. Sister is right. I don't need to worry. Woo-Jin just feels sorry for Young-Mi and pities her. That's all it is.

A determined expression comes over her face...

Sun-Mi.............. I won't give up! ... Once Woo-Jin realizes that it's True Love, he'll see I'm the right one for him...
