Act 4 - Part 1

SCENE: MBS main entrance, evening

Recovered from her initial shock, Sun-Mi slowly stands, leaving her bag on the pavement.

She steps forward, then dips her head respectfully.

Sun-Mi.............. Director Yoon.

Hyung-Chul....... Do you need help?

Woo-Jin answers for her ...

Woo-Jin............ No need ... I'll take care of it.

He crouches down and starts to collect the spilled items back into Sun-Mi's bag.

Hyung-Chul....... Announcer Jin, I believe you've met Miss Park Su-Jin before.

Sun-Mi.............. (stiffly) Yes. I remember Ms. Park very well.

But Su-Jin looks at Sun-Mi blankly, without recognition.

Hyung-Chul....... Jin Sun-Mi is one of our TV and radio announcers. We first met when she came to London, in 1995.

A spark of recollection lights in Su-Jin's eyes.

Su-Jin............... The day I arrived in London? At your flat? ... That girl?

Hyung-Chul....... (nods) Yes.

Su-Jin............... So you're Jin Sun-Mi? ... Of Musical Postcards? ... The 'Goddess of Love'?

Sun-Mi smiles coldly.

Sun-Mi.............. Yes. That's me.

Su-Jin............... Ah. You look much different in person than in the media.

Her offish tone signals to Sun-Mi that she is less laying on a compliment, than dropping a gauntlet.

Sensing tension between the two women, Hyung-Chul decides to explain his appearance with Su-Jin ...

Hyung-Chul....... Miss Park just hired on as a contractor for MBS, so it's by chance we happened to meet up.

Su-Jin............... Chance? (laughs) It's Fate, that we have this opportunity to rekindle the past after so long.

She smiles, gazing at him affectionately, tightening her hand on his arm.

Hyung-Chul....... (uneasily) I'm not sure I'd go that far.

Su-Jin............... Why not ask what the 'Goddess of Love' thinks? Is True Love fated, Miss Jin?

Finished with collecting Sun-Mi's things, Woo-Jin stands up. holding Sun-Mi's bag.

Woo-Jin............ Excuse me ... We need to go now, Sun-Mi. You'll be late.

But Sun-Mi isn't ready to go, just yet ...

Sun-Mi.............. Sorry for being remiss with the introductions. This is Kim Woo-Jin, MBS photojournalist.

Su-Jin dips her head politely.

Su-Jin............... Mr. Kim.

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa and I go back a long way, too. So much that some surmise we're more than friends.

She takes Woo-Jin's arm, like Su-Jin is holding Hyung-Chul's.

Sun-Mi.............. As for True Love, Ms. Park, whether it's fated or not, I believe we choose the ones we love.

She looks directly at Hyung-Chul pointedly.

Sun-Mi.............. Do you agree, Director Yoon?

Surprised -- and dismayed -- at her open display of affection with Woo-Jin, he replies coldly ...

Hyung-Chul....... You can't force love. You have to let the person do as she wants, then make your own choice.

She follows icily, tit for tat ...

Sun-Mi.............. Like when you think you know a person, yet he surprises you with something out of the blue?

Woo-Jin decides to step in, before things escalate further ...

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi, the time?

The intrusion distracts Sun-Mi from her affixation as she turns her head to look at Woo-Jin.

Sun-Mi.............. Huh? ... Oh. Yes. Right.

Turning back to Hyung-Chul, she bows her head formally.

Sun-Mi.............. Director Yoon, we have to leave first.

Hyung-Chul....... Of course.

Taking her bag from Woo-Jin, Sun-Mi goes with him over to his car.

He opens the passenger door and helps Sun-Mi alight, then faces Hyung-Chul and dips his head respectfully.

Circling to the driver's side, he gets in and starts the engine.

Hyung-Chul follows the car with his eyes as it circles the drive and heads for the MBS main gate.

Tired of waiting, Su-Jin pulls on his arm.

Su-Jin............... Let's go now. I'm famished!

But he ignores her, watching until the car passes the gate and turns onto the street.

Su-Jin............... They're gone. Now can we go?

Hyung-Chul looks at her, nods, and they walk off together ...

SCENE: Woo-Jin's car, evening

Sun-Mi is talking on her mobile phone as Woo-Jin drives.

Sun-Mi.............. Sister Agnes? It's Jin Sun-Mi. Something came up, so we'll have to reschedule.

She glances over at Woo-Jin.

Sun-Mi.............. Right. Next week? Text me ... Thanks, bye.

She closes her phone, but keeps it in her hand.

Woo-Jin............ You had a nun as a professor?

Sun-Mi.............. Not exactly. She teaches at my Uni, but we met on my flight to London, and kept in touch ever since.

She puts her phone back into her bag as she talks.

Sun-Mi.............. I wanted her insight on what the students are thinking about careers these days.

Woo-Jin............ Why cancel?

Sun-Mi.............. I don't feel up to it tonight. It's been a long day.

He knows there is more to it than she is willing to divulge, regarding Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin, but doesn't pry.

Woo-Jin............ Do you want to go for something to eat?

She considers for a moment, then smiles as she shakes her head.

Sun-Mi.............. Let's go to my place instead. We can cook up something there ...

SCENE: Restaurant, evening

Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin sit at a table for two, talking as they eat.

Hyung-Chul....... Why come to see me, after all this time?

He has a sip of wine, while she puts down her fork to answer.

Su-Jin............... I've been thinking about this for a long time ... I want to apologize for that day.

They both think back, to the last time they were together, and what happened ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 4, in Hyung-Chul's London flat]

Su-Jin............... I promised you a present for your birthday ... Let me show you.

Hyung-Chul turns and looks, stunned at what he sees ...

Su-Jin............... I thought you'd like it ... I picked it out specially for you ...

Su-Jin............... Are you going to just stand there and gawk like a fool, or come over and unwrap your present?

She slips off her coat, turning to lay it on the couch.

Hyung-Chul doesn't answer or move, just watches her.

Su-Jin............... Suddenly, you're shy? Let me do it for you then.

She removes the ribbons, one at a time, dropping them on the floor.

Then she waits, but Hyung-Chul remains silent, immobile.

Feeling a bit uneasy under his unrelenting scrutiny, she laughs nervously.

Su-Jin............... Am I really that stunning? ... When you come to your senses, I'll be waiting in the bedroom ...

Knife and fork in hand, Hyung-Chul cuts off a bite of steak as he reflects on that last encounter.

Su-Jin............... When I went to the bedroom, I had no idea what to expect, you were so inscrutable.

Hyung-Chul....... That's all in the past and best forgotten. Why not leave it behind us?

After a sip of wine, she disagrees ...

Su-Jin............... Except I can't forget. And neither can you, with every detail locked in your photographic memory.

He nods -- she is correct.

Su-Jin............... For five years, this has held us back. I want to move on. Don't you?

Hyung-Chul....... Okay. What do you want to say?

She puts the glass down, and takes a moment to collect her thoughts.

Su-Jin............... That summer I came to Cambridge, my father was pushing me to get closer to you.

Hyung-Chul....... I'd suspected as much.

Su-Jin............... The last thing I intended was to fall in love. But I did, and thought you loved me, too ...

The twist of her mouth shows she still feels the pain ...

Su-Jin............... That is, until you dumped me. Still, separation makes the heart grow fonder, right?

Hyung-Chul....... So they say.

Su-Jin............... And hope dies hard. So I came back, determined to rekindle the flame if possible.

....................... When I saw you with Jin Sun-Mi, my first instinct was to eliminate the competition.

Hyung-Chul....... That's why she ran off so suddenly?

Su-Jin............... She never told you?

Hyung-Chul....... No. What happened?

Su-Jin looks down guiltily, playing with the food on her plate as she replies ...

Su-Jin............... I'll leave it that a desperate woman can be ruthless, and I was desperate to hang onto you ...

Looking up again, she smiles sheepishly.

Su-Jin............... We both know how that went. Since then, I was too embarrassed to face you again.

Hyung-Chul....... Until today?

Su-Jin............... Being at MBS, I knew we'd meet eventually. So I decided it should be on my terms.

Hyung-Chul....... What do you want from me?

Su-Jin............... Is it too much to hope that we could start over, as friends?

Hyung-Chul....... Before we do that, there's something I should say, too ... But let's finish our dinner first ...

SCENE: Sun-Mi's kitchen, evening

Woo-Jin is chopping vegetables, while Sun-Mi stirs a pot on the cook top.

Woo-Jin............ I have this feeling of deja vue ... like we've been here before.

She looks up at him and laughs.

Sun-Mi.............. It's been a long time since we last cooked together, hasn't it?

He grins.

Woo-Jin............ Yes.

They both think back to that night, when the events that affected their lives to this day started unfolding ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 1, in Sun-Mi's kitchen]

Sun-Mi.............. If you mom saw us she'd scold us.

Woo-Jin............ Why?

Sun-Mi.............. Because the two of us are alone here. She's so old-fashioned, you know.

Woo-Jin............ My mom doesn't know anything. Even if you tie the two of us together, nothing would happen, right?

Sun-Mi.............. That's what you think!

Sun-Mi.............. Who would've thought that we'd be here again, just the two of us, alone together ...

She stops stirring and smiles broadly.

Sun-Mi.............. And with your mom's approval, no less.

As Sun-Mi seems in a better mood, Woo-Jin decides to bring up what happened earlier, at MBS.

Woo-Jin............ Why did you insinuate that we're together?

Sun-Mi.............. (humorously) We just spent every day together for the past two months. What should I have said?

Woo-Jin............ I think you're jealous Director Yoon was with Park Su-Jin.

His assertion gets an immediate, dismissive reaction from Sun-Mi ...

Sun-Mi.............. Humph! ... Me, jealous?

Woo-Jin............ Yes.

Sun-Mi.............. He can date anyone he likes, especially an old girlfriend! It doesn't matter to me!

Woo-Jin............ Then why act that way?

Putting down the stirring spoon, she faces Woo-Jin, crossing her arms adamantly to underscore her position.

Sun-Mi.............. All that matters is you get yourself back together, so your mom doesn't worry herself to death.

SCENE: Restaurant, evening

Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin continue their conversation over after-dinner drinks.

Su-Jin............... What was it you were going to tell me?

Hyung-Chul....... That summer, it wasn't just you who were being pressured by your parents.

Taking a last drag from a cigarette, he snuffs out the butt in an ashtray on the table.

Hyung-Chul....... I wanted to make a show in front of Yoo Joo-Hee, and it needed to be convincing.

She looks at him, astounded ...

Su-Jin............... You used me? It was all a pretense?

He stares down into his drink remorsefully.

Hyung-Chul....... It wasn't personal. It could've been anyone. I didn't think you'd take it seriously and come back.

Su-Jin............... Then what you said that day, in your bedroom ...

FLASHBACK [Bedroom in Hyung-Chul's London flat]

Su-Jin is reclining on the bed, waiting for Hyung-Chul, and greets him with a warm smile.

Su-Jin............... (seductively) Let me help you get comfortable, oppa.

But he turns on her lividly ...

Hyung-Chul....... Get up!

Bewildered, she stands, indignant over his sudden change of attitude.

Su-Jin............... Oppa? What's wrong with you?!

Hyung-Chul....... Did you really think I intended to sleep with you?

Su-Jin............... Before ... Why look at me like that? Why not say something then?

Hyung-Chul....... (scoffing) I wanted to see how far you'd go, to making a fool of yourself.

Su-Jin............... You --you're calling me a fool?

Hyung-Chul....... Would you prefer I called you a slut? Because that's what you're acting like.

Su-Jin............... W--what?! ... I did this for you. I LOVE you!

He looks at her contemptuously.

Hyung-Chul....... I'm not sure I know what love is, but I know this isn't even close. Actually, it sickens me!

She stares at him, shocked ...

Su-Jin............... Now I disgust you, too?

Angry, hurt, tears well up in her eyes.

Su-Jin............... If you're trying to humiliate me, you're doing a bang up job of it!

Hyung-Chul....... I don't have to humiliate you. You've done that to yourself, Su-Jin. So just get out ...

Hyung-Chul....... I did it so you'd give up and not come back ...

Su-Jin............... (irately) Well, you were successful at that!

He lowers his eyes guiltily.

Hyung-Chul....... If it means anything, I'm sorry. I know I was totally in the wrong.

He looks up at her again.

Hyung-Chul....... Now that you know the truth, do you still want to be friends?

Su-Jin takes a sip of her drink, answering thoughtfully.

Su-Jin............... Actually, I was kind of acting slutty. But you ... you were being a real jerk.

Hyung-Chul....... (nods ruefully) You're right about that.

Su-Jin............... Do you honestly regret?

Hyung-Chul....... If I had a do-over, I'd be honest with you from the beginning.

She leans forward and smiles.

Su-Jin............... So let's do it over then, and be honest, this time. Why can't a slut and a jerk be friends?

SCENE: Sun-Mi's bedroom, night

Sun-Mi sits on her bed, rehashing her sole interaction with Su-Jin five years ago in London ...

FLASHBACK [In Hyung-Chul's London flat]

Su-Jin............... You can't hold a candle to me as a woman, if you're thinking about taking me on ...

She aggressively moves closer, her tone menacing ...

Su-Jin............... Spare yourself the humiliation, and slink out now, while you have some face left. It's your choice ...

But Sun-Mi stands her ground ...

Sun-Mi.............. Regardless of who you are, you've no right to talk to me like that!

Backing off the pressure, Su-Jin smiles easily and her voice lightens up ...

Su-Jin............... I'm only giving you some good advice, because you seem like an innocent girl.

....................... Do you realize that Yoon Hyung-Chul is not just any ordinary man? Do you know whose son he is?

Sun-Mi.............. I don't care about that. To me, he is just another person. A good friend, who treats me well.

Su-Jin nods like she's heard this before.

Su-Jin............... I understand why you like him. Wherever he goes, there's dozens of girls lined up who'd die for him.

....................... It's a natural temptation, so I don't blame him for indulging their hopes, then leaving a trail of broken hearts.

Sun-Mi.............. Senior is a sincere person. He's not like that!

Su-Jin............... Really? Then ponder this: He can have any woman in the world, so why a plain, ordinary girl like you?

She smiles sympathetically ...

Su-Jin............... Whatever he promises, when he tires of it, he'll move on. Don't let him take you for a fool, too.

....................... I'm not bragging, but in the end, he always comes back to me after his flings.

Sun-Mi.............. I don't believe any of this!

Su-Jin............... Then stay, and I'll ask him to his face. Are you so sure you're right, that you want to hear the answer?

She ponders that question, and her reaction back then ...

Sun-Mi.............. Am I still running away today, afraid to know the truth?

Contemplating the anklet on her right leg, she reflects on Su-Jin's warning ...

Su-Jin............... (V.O.) Whatever he promises ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 13, at Sun-Mi's birthday celebration, night]

Hyung-Chul. Your pearl is from the ocean and the peridot are from outer space. But they're together now.

Hyung-Chul. If you give it to your sweet-heart, the two of you can meet in the next life.

Hyung-Chul. Let's see each other in the next life.

Su-Jin............... (V.O.) when he tires of you, he'll move on ...

FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 15, in Sun-Mi's garden, after she lied to Hyung-Chul about Woo-Jin]

Hyung-Chul. When I think you've taken a step closer, you take a step back ... It's tiring, so I hope you can stop it.

FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, at the MBS entrance]

Hyung-Chul....... You can't force love. You have to let a person do what she wants, then make your choice.

Su-Jin............... (V.O.) He always comes back to me after his flings ...

Sun-Mi.............. Is it just a coincidence that Park Su-Jin has reappeared now? Or is it Fate?

She reaches down to touch the anklet.

Sun-Mi.............. Can the pearl and peridot, coming from different worlds, have anything in common?

Un fastening the clasp, she removes the jewelry from her leg.

Sun-Mi.............. Isn't someone like Yoo Joo-Hee, or Park Su-Jin, who shares his world, more compatible?

Holding the circlet in her hand, she rolls the smooth stones between her fingers.

Sun-Mi.............. Isn't it time to stop playing Cinderella, admit the truth, and face reality?

Act 4 - Part 2

SCENE: MBS Announcer 1Team office, morning

Joo-Hee is working at her desk, when she hears footsteps in the corridor.

She looks up to see Sun-Mi entering the announcers' office. The wall clock shows 6:55.

When Sun-Mi sees Joo-Hee, she stops and dips her head respectfully.

Sun-Mi.............. Senior.

Joo-Hee............ You're here already?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes. My ride had an early appointment.

Joo-Hee smiles.

Joo-Hee............ Let's get some coffee together.

The invitation surprises Sun-Mi, and a smile breaks across her face.

Sun-Mi.............. Sure.

SCENE: MBS cafeteria, morning

Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee are walking through the cafeteria.

Joo-Hee............ The coffee here really is better than in the canteen.

Sun-Mi.............. Yes.

She sees Woo-Jin seated at a table nearby.

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa?

Hearing the familiar voice, Woo-Jin turns to look as Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee come nearer.

Sun-Mi.............. I thought you were out on location?

Woo-Jin............ Uh ... I didn't say that, exactly.

Sun-Mi.............. Then, why are you here?

The click of high heels sounds behind Sun-Mi.

She glances back, and sees Young-Mi carrying a breakfast tray.

Young-Mi.......... Because he's meeting me, that's why, to go over the taping schedule.

Sun-Mi glares at Woo-Jin, upset at being deceived.

Guiltily, he looks away.

Young-Mi greets Joo-Hee with a smile.

Young-Mi.......... Good morning, Senior.

Looking for an escape, Sun-Mi excuses herself ...

Sun-Mi.............. Senior, I'll go for the coffee, okay?

Joo-Hee nods agreement, and Sun-Mi quickly walks away.

Woo-Jin stands to greet Joo-Hee.

Woo-Jin............ Manager Yoo.

Glancing after Sun-Mi, Joo-Hee looks back at Young-Mi and Woo-Jin.

Joo-Hee............ How is it going?

Young-Mi.......... We're doing a series of segments on the children's charities for Eve's Morning.

Joo-Hee............ Yes, I heard. I'll let you two get to work.

Young-Mi.......... Yes.

Joo-Hee walks off in the direction Sun-Mi had taken.

When she is out of earshot, Young-Mi turns to Woo-Jin, vexed ...

Young-Mi.......... What did you tell Sun-Mi?!

SCENE: MBS rooftop, morning

After getting their coffee, Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee go up to the rooftop.

The sun is just breaking above the nearby buildings, casting a warm glow over the rooftop and office tower.

Joo-Hee............ It's going to be a warm day. It feels like Spring is in the air.

Sun-Mi.............. Yes.

At the top of the stairs, they cross to the far side of the roof, overlooking the front gate and car parking area.

Joo-Hee............ How are you feeling lately?

Sun-Mi.............. Fine. Why do you ask?

Joo-Hee............ I heard you were ill at a meeting the other day.

Sun-Mi.............. Oh, that? Just some stomach bug.

Joo-Hee............ There's nothing else?

Though uncomfortable with Joo-Hee's prying, Sun-Mi can't refuse to answer, so she redirects the conversation.

Sun-Mi.............. You seem concerned about my health. Is that why everyone was assigned extra tasks but me?

Joo-Hee............ You're referring to the posting?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes.

She hesitates, then decides to speak her concerns directly ...

Sun-Mi.............. Actually, Senior, it's a bit embarrassing being singled out. I'm not sickly. I can carry my own weight.

Joo-Hee smiles at Sun-Mi's attitude.

Joo-Hee............ Is that what you think? What if I said you were singled out for another reason?

Sun-Mi.............. Hah! ... What could that be?

Joo-Hee............ The Nine O'clock News. We may need a successor for the co-anchor slot soon.

Sun-Mi.............. Huh?

Sun-Mi stares at Joo-Hee, stunned ...

Sun-Mi.............. You want me to succeed you, Senior? I appreciate the confidence, but ... I'm hardly qualified.

Joo-Hee nods in agreement.

Joo-Hee............ You're certainly correct on that point! So don't go and get a big head.

....................... Right now, Young-Mi is the ONLY one qualified to step up behind me ...

The splash of reality washes the smile off Sun-Mi's face.

Joo-Hee............ And that's a problem. If an accident or something happened to me, there's only one option, right?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes.

Joo-Hee............ So Manager Kim and I decided to reinstate your training ... If you're willing, that is.

Sun-Mi's smile is back as quickly as it disappeared.

Sun-Mi.............. Of course! Thank you, Senior! And thank Senior Kim for me, too.

Joo-Hee............ Actually, the person to thank is Director Yoon.

Learning that Hyung-Chul was involved brings a shadow onto Sun-Mi's face ...

Sun-Mi.............. Senior? He asked you to train me?

Joo-Hee............ Not directly. While traveling, he asked us to assess our readiness in a crisis.

Sun-Mi.............. Oh ...

She accepts the explanation, but still harbors concern over Hyung-Chul's possible 'help'.

Joo-Hee............ Speak of the devil!

Joo-Hee points down, in the direction of the MBS main gate.

Joo-Hee............ Isn't that Director Yoon's car coming in right now?

Sun-Mi looks down, and immediately notices that Hyung-Chul is not alone in the car ...

Sun-Mi.............. Er ... Yes, it is ...

SCENE: MBS parking lot, morning

Hyung-Chul's car enters the main MBS main gate, and circles around the drive.

He slows the BMW to a gradual stop in a parking space, and shuts down the engine.

In the front passenger seat, Su-Jin turns toward him.

Su-Jin............... Thanks again for the ride. I hope I'm not being a burden.

Hyung-Chul....... It's nothing.

They both unfasten their seatbelts, and alight from the car at the same time.

Circling around the front, he joins her.

Su-Jin............... My car is over there.

She points in the direction opposite from the entrance.

Hyung-Chul....... Then, I'll be leaving first.

He starts to turn, but she speaks up.

Su-Jin............... Why not come and see it? You might be impressed.

Curious, he nods, and they start walking toward her car.

SCENE: MBS rooftop, morning

On the rooftop, Joo-Hee and Sun-Mi are watching as Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin walk together.

Joo-Hee............ Who's that with Director Yoon?

Sun-Mi.............. That's ... er ... Park Su-Jin ...

Joo-Hee looks at Sun-Mi, surprised.

Joo-Hee............ Did you say Park ... Su-Jin?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes. She was his girlfriend when he lived in London. She's working now with MBS.

Joo-Hee says nothing in response, but her hand tightens, crushing her empty coffee cup.

Joo-Hee............ Aren't you concerned, seeing her with him like this? She's a very attractive woman.

Sun-Mi forces a smile, trying to appear unconcerned.

Sun-Mi.............. If he wants to meet a old friend, even a former girlfriend, is that wrong?

Joo-Hee............ That's quite open-minded of you. Many people would be jealous.

Sun-Mi.............. Why? Senior's not the kind of person to break up behind my back.

Joo-Hee............ (sharply) Do you think so? Don't trust anyone too far!

Sun-Mi is surprised by Joo-Hee's strident tone.

Sun-Mi.............. Senior? Is something wrong?

Joo-Hee quickly checks her watch.

Joo-Hee............ Oh ... I have to go back in now.

Sun-Mi.............. I'll go with you.

Joo-Hee sees Sun-Mi's cup is still half-full.

Joo-Hee............ There's no need to rush. Please stay and enjoy your tea.

Puzzled by Joo-Hee's odd behavior, Sun-Mi goes along.

Sun-Mi.............. Okay. I'll join you in the office shortly.

As Joo-Hee hurries off to the stairway, Sun-Mi turns back to look down into the car park ...

SCENE: MBS parking lot, morning

Su-Jin............... This way.

She directs Hyung-Chul down the aisle way, to where a bright red convertible sits.

Su-Jin............... What do you think?

Astonished, Hyung-Chul gapes openly.

Hyung-Chul....... You have a Z3?

She chuckles at his awed reaction.

Su-Jin............... I had so much fun riding in yours in London, that I had to get one for myself.

Hyung-Chul eyes the iconic BMW lustfully, reveling over the vehicle's sleek curves.

He runs his hand lightly over the front left quarter panel, caressing the smooth metal like it was a woman's cheek.

Hyung-Chul....... Seeing this beauty brings back old memories.

Su-Jin............... Good ones, I hope?

Hyung-Chul....... (thoughtfully) Yes and no. But that was a different place and time.

Su-Jin drops her bag in the back and opens the driver's side door.

Turning her back to the car, she deftly lowers herself onto the driver's seat.

Raising her feet, she fluidly pivots her legs inside the cockpit with practiced ease.

Looking up at him, she smiles invitingly.

Su-Jin............... Like to join me for a spin?

He grins back.

Hyung-Chul....... I'm tempted.

Su-Jin............... What are you waiting for? Hop in!

SCENE: MBS rooftop, morning

Out of sight from the office tower windows, under the stairway, Joo-Hee leans against the brick wall for support.

She sobs deeply, crying bitter tears.

The sobs fade off, and she stands straight, wiping her wet cheeks as she harshly scolds herself ...

Joo-Hee............ Pull yourself together! Crying over him is useless now.

She inhales deeply, exhaling slowly as she considers the situation ... and the appropriate response ...

Joo-Hee............ Why is Park Su-Jin here, now? What is Hyung-Chul doing, seeing her again?

The corners of her mouth turn down grimly, as dark thoughts cloud her mind.

Joo-Hee............ How can I ever forgive him when he flaunts that hussy in my face again, after all these years?

SCENE: MBS parking lot, morning

Mulling over Su-Jin's offer to go for a drive in her BMW Z3, Hyung-Chul holds back.

Hyung-Chul....... Thanks, but I'd better not. I have work to do.

Sensing some uncertainty on his part, Su-Jin decides to sweeten the offer.

She swings her legs back out of the car, resting the tips of her stiletto heels on the pavement, but stays in the seat.

Looking up at Hyung-Chul, she smiles, pleased to have captured his attention, as intended ...

Su-Jin............... You can drive, if you like. Just a loop around the park? Relive those carefree days in London.

Steadfast now in his decision, Hyung-Chul shakes his head.

Su-Jin............... Duty calls, right? ... Maybe next time?

He laughs.

Hyung-Chul....... You might just persuade me ... But I do have to go in now.

Su-Jin............... Maybe I'll see you soon?

Hyung-Chul....... (noncommittally) Sure.

Su-Jin............... Then, it's goodbye, for now.

She stands up and takes a step toward Hyung-Chul, moving her right hand forward.

But as Hyung-Chul reaches for Su-Jin's hand to shake it, she closes in.

Before he realizes what is happening, Su-Jin has her arms wrapped around his neck in a vise grip.

Pressing her supple body against his, she holds him in a lingering, intimate hug.

Hyung-Chul does not reciprocate, instead placing his hands on her shoulders and gently pushing back.

Taking the hint, Su-Jin loosens her hold, but stepping back, plants a kiss on his cheek.

Noting the surprise in his eyes, she smiles mischievously ...

Su-Jin............... 'A British goodbye' -- remember? That was how you always sent me off.

He frowns, displeased with her presumptions.

Hyung-Chul....... This isn't England. People may be watching!

She passes off his concern with a light laugh.

Su-Jin............... It's early, and we're the only ones out here. Who would be watching?

SCENE: MBS rooftop, morning

From the rooftop, Sun-Mi has jealously watched Su-Jin's flagrant flirting with increasing disquiet.

Her brazen hug is the last straw.

Sun-Mi.............. The skank!

But her anger is directed mostly at one person ...

Sun-Mi.............. Why doe Senior put up with it?! Why not do something to discourage her?

The empty cup falls from her hand, rolling at her feet as her jaw tightens and her fingers curl into a tight fist.

Sun-Mi.............. When I see him again, I'm gonna punish him ... big time!

But it is Su-Jin's words -- more than her actions -- which cut deeply, cheapening a cherished memory ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 04, at London City airport]

Hyung-Chul....... All right! This is an English goodbye.

Sun-Mi.............. Humph! I'll bet he used that line with all the girls!

Turning her back on the scene, she stomps across the roof to the stairs, tears of betrayal smarting in her eyes.

Sun-Mi.............. Senior Joo-Hee was right. Don't trust anyone too far!

SCENE: MBS conference room, morning

Hyung-Chul is meeting with the PD of "Youth Concert" ...

Hyung-Chul....... I asked you to avoid any crudeness or extreme reports.

He picks up a newspaper and shows it to the PD, who looks down and kneads his hands uncomfortably.

Hyung-Chul....... So what is this embarrassment? If we're scandalized over something like this, we'll be in a bad position.

The PD looks up at Hyung-Chul.

PD................... The program rating is high.

Hyung-Chul....... You got it from half naked women?

The PD appears upset by the rebuke.

Hyung-Chul....... Please be a little more careful. I'm not asking you to be perfect, but we have to take care of the basics.

....................... You've got the skills, so what's the problem?

PD................... Uhh ... Other people have a different opinion than you. Of course, you studied a lot in London.

....................... But to our PDs who've worked here for over 10 years ...

Hyung-Chul....... Continue.

The PD rubs the back of his head with his hand.

PD................... They think your policies are too idealistic. We have to try every means to increase the ratings.

....................... By following what you ask and the ratings fall, we're the ones who'll get into trouble.

SCENE: MBS corridor, morning

When Hyung-Chul comes out of the conference room, he finds Young-Mi waiting for him.

She steps forward.

Young-Mi.......... Director Yoon ... a moment?

Hyung-Chul....... Yes?

Young-Mi.......... Can we speak somewhere more private?

SCENE: MBS news studio, morning

Meanwhile, in the empty news studio, Sun-Mi confronts Woo-Jin!

Sun-Mi.............. Why did you lie to me this morning?!

Woo-Jin............ Because I knew you'd be like this, if I told you I was meeting Young-Mi.

Sun-Mi.............. And you didn't think how I'd be if I found out?!

He looks at her, perplexed.

Woo-Jin............ Why is this such a big deal?

Sun-Mi.............. After everything Young-Mihas done, you have to ask 'Why'?

Frustrated at his obtuseness, she checks the time.

Sun-Mi.............. I have another appointment soon. We'll talk about this on the drive home tonight.

But he has more unwelcome news ...

Woo-Jin............ I won't be sending you home for awhile. Or bringing you to work.

Sun-Mi.............. What?

Woo-Jin............ I have to be in early and stay on late, to finish the gala segments on schedule.

The frown on Sun-Mi's face deepens.

Sun-Mi.............. So that was Young-Mi's plan all along!

Woo-Jin............ Huh?

Sun-Mi.............. She's using this as a way to weasel herself back into your head, isn't she?

Woo-Jin............ No way! I'm over Young-Mi now. She can't affect me so easily any more.

Sun-Mi.............. Still ...

Woo-Jin............ I appreciate what you've done, Sun-Mi, but it's time to live your own life again.

....................... Go back to Director Yoon, before it's too late. I can take care of myself.

She glares at him, her voice rising ...

Sun-Mi.............. How can you take care of yourself, if you can't see what Young-Mi is up to?

Woo-Jin............ Be reasonable! It's not some nefarious plot. We're just doing our jobs.

His attempt to ease Sun-Mi's worries just stokes her fire hotter.

Sun-Mi.............. How can you say that! Young-Mi is ... is ... uhhh ...

She grimaces, raising her hand to her temple.

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi? What's wrong!

Losing her balance, she staggers.

Woo-Jin, reacting quickly, helps her to sit down in the nearby anchor chair.

Sun-Mi.............. (weakly) I'm just a bit nauseous. My stomach is acting up again.

Woo-Jin............ Let me take you to the hospital for a checkup.

Sun-Mi.............. No need. I'm fine, really.

Woo-Jin............ Are you sure you'll be okay?

She nods.

Sun-Mi.............. Yes. Give me a minute ...

SCENE: MBS training classroom, morning

Hyung-Chul follows Young-Mi into the classroom and closes the door.

Hyung-Chul....... What did you want to say?

Young-Mi.......... Director Kim wants me to see him in his office Friday. It's about his new program.

Hyung-Chul....... You don't need my permission to meet with another executive.

Young-Mi.......... I didn't want to go behind your back, that you might question my loyalty.

Hyung-Chul....... You needn't have worried ...

He smiles to put her at ease

Hyung-Chul....... He and I are meeting Friday to discuss programming. He probably wanted to put me on the spot.

Young-Mi.......... What should I do?

Hyung-Chul....... That's your choice.

Young-Mi.......... Wouldn't you prefer I stay on Eve's Morning?

Hyung-Chul....... Of course. But it might be a good career move.

Young-Mi.......... How could I? Going to him would make me feel like I was betraying you.

....................... Everyone knows about his conflicts with you, and his ambitions.

Hyung-Chul....... Regardless, you need to decide what is best for yourself.

She smiles.

Young-Mi.......... I promised to be your right-hand. I won't betray you. You'll see.

SCENE: MBS lower lobby, afternoon

Later that afternoon, Sun-Mi comes out of the makeup room.

Down the corridor, she sees Woo-Jin, carrying his video camera.

She is about to call out to get his attention, when Young-Mi appears, approaching him in a huff.

Young-Mi.......... (scolding) It's about time! We'll be late for the interview!

Woo-Jin............ Sorry. I was held up.

Young-Mi looks over Woo-Jin's shoulder and sees Sun-Mi is watching them.

Instantly she pivots, a smile quickly replacing her pique, as her voice sweetens ...

Young-Mi.......... It's okay. You can make it up to me.

He chuckles at her 180-degree mood swing.

Woo-Jin............ What do you want?

She shoots a smug smile to Sun-Mi, then turns and links her arm with Woo-Jin's.

Young-Mi.......... Afterward, let's have dinner before we come back to the office.

Woo-Jin............ Any particular place in mind?

Young-Mi.......... (coyly) Since you're buying, you choose.

Woo-Jin............ Are you sure?

Young-Mi.......... I wouldn't have it any other way ...

SCENE: MBS main lobby, evening

THAT EVENING ...

The lift doors on the Main floor open.

Hyung-Chul steps out and turns toward the main lobby.

Outside, the sky is dark, shrouded by heavy, low-hanging clouds.

A driving rain spatters the curtain wall of the expansive lobby with large drops that streak down the glass.

He heads for the exit, clutching his briefcase in one hand, and an umbrella in the other.

Ahead of Hyung-Chul, Young-Mi comes in the double doors with Woo-Jin trailing her.

She is folding up an umbrella. He carries his camera, and has an equipment bag slung over his left shoulder.

As they walk toward Hyung-Chul, he greets them with a joke ...

Hyung-Chul....... Aren't you two starting the day a bit late?

Young-Mi smiles.

Young-Mi.......... Actually, we're back from taping an organization working with disabled children.

Hyung-Chul....... For the charity gala? Is everything going well?

Young-Mi.......... Yes. Kim Woo-Jin is producing the video segments for Eve's Morning next week.

Hyung-Chul....... Ah ... Mr. Kim. I see our promotion is in capable hands.

Woo-Jin............ Thank you, Director.

Young-Mi raises her arm to check her wrist watch.

Young-Mi.......... Oh! The time! ... I have to get ready for the News!

She dips her head to Hyung-Chul.

Young-Mi.......... I'll be leaving first, Director.

Woo-Jin............ Me, too. I have to start on the editing.

Hyung-Chul....... (nods) Very well. Keep up the good work.

He watches briefly as they head for the lifts, then continues on his way out ...

SCENE: Street outside MBS, evening

Sun-Mi is standing at the street curb outside MBS in the pouring rain, trying to flag down a taxi.

One cab, then another, pass by, already occupied.

Frustrated, she waves harder at the next cab, but it, too, is occupied, and speeds past.

Then a gust of wind catches her umbrella, flipping it inside out and collapsing it.

Exposed to the downpour, she scrambles for the shelter of a nearby bus stop.

Although she runs, by the time Sun-Mi is under the roof, her suit is wet and her hair is dripping.

She is wiping the water from her face, when a car rolls up and stops in front of the bus shelter.

The horn beeps, catching her attention.

Sun-Mi looks up, and sees that it is Hyung-Chul's car.

The power window lowers with the purr of an electric motor.

Hyung-Chul leans across the front seat, so he can look outside at her.

Hyung-Chul....... Get in, I'll send you home.

Still upset by what she had witnessed that morning, the last person she wants to be with in a car is him!

Sun-Mi.............. There's no need. Don't you have someplace else to be?

He sighs tiredly ...

Hyung-Chul....... Don't be stubborn. Your umbrella is ruined -- you'll be drenched walking from the bus to your house.

Wanting to avoid an argument, Sun-Mi decides a small white lie is forgivable ...

Sun-Mi.............. Thank you, but ... Actually, I already have a ride ... from Woo-Jin.

She sees a flicker briefly cloud his eyes, but isn't certain from what cause.

Knowing that Sun-Mi is lying -- again -- about Woo-Jin, Hyung-Chul doesn't press her.

Hyung-Chul....... Okay, then ... I'll be leaving first. Be careful.

Sun-Mi.............. I will. Good night, Director Yoon.

The car window slides up, and Hyung-Chul merges into the street traffic.

Watching his car drive off, Sun-Mi sighs, already regretting ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 15, in Sun-Mi's garden]

Hyung-Chul. Why didn't you tell me the truth?

Sun-Mi........ I'm sorry

Hyung-Chul. You know ... I always want you to get closer to me.

................. When I think you're closer, you take a step backward.

SCENE: Woo-Jin's home, evening

LATER THAT NIGHT ...

After going home and changing into dry clothes, Sun-Mi visits Woo-Jin's mother.

Jin-Suk is working in the kitchen when Sun-Mi comes in.

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty? It's me.

Jin-Suk............. Sit down and I'll be with you in a sec.

Sun-Mi goes to the living room. Placing her bag on the floor, she sits down.

Jin-Suk bustles out of the kitchen -- carrying two glasses of juice she hastily poured -- and joins Sun-Mi.

Jin-Suk............. You came alone? Where's Woo-Jin?

Sun-Mi.............. Staying late tonight at the office. He's working on a special project this week.

Jin-Suk............. You're not concerned he's out on his own, alone?

Sun-Mi decides to hold back her worries, and encourage Jin-Suk ...

Sun-Mi.............. No. Actually, Woo-Jin and I decided that we don't need to go together every day anymore.

Jin-Suk............. Oh?

Sun-Mi.............. He hasn't had a drink for over two months. He really is getting back on his feet now.

Hearing this, Jin-Suk smiles widely.

Jin-Suk............. Sun-Mi, I'm so thankful for your efforts. You've given me my son back.

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty, it's nothing compared to what you did for me after Mother passed on.

Jin-Suk expression turns thoughtful.

Jin-Suk............. I wish she were here today, to see you. She'd be so proud of what you've accomplished.

Sun-Mi nods, as tears roll in her eyes.

Sun-Mi.............. I really do miss her, you know that.

Jin-Suk's eyes are also tearing up.

Jin-Suk............. Me, too. We'll just have to keep her alive in our thoughts, right?

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty ...

She opens her arms and embraces Jin-Suk as they console each other.

SCENE: Sun-Mi's home, evening

SEVERAL DAYS LATER ...

Dust cloth in hand, Sun-Mi is wiping down the shelves where her father keeps his liquor.

Seeing one of the bottles of whiskey, she picks it up, as her thoughts go back ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 15, in Sun-Mi's home]

Sun-Mi.............. Woo-Jin, what's wrong with you?

Sun-Mi.............. Are you doing this because of Young-Mi? Is she that worth it?

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi. Just a little more. I'll drink just a little more.

Sun-Mi.............. Stop drinking and just go to sleep.

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi, will you marry me?

Sun-Mi.............. Why did things turn out like this? ... You're so bad ... marry you?

Sun-Mi.............. How can you ask me now? ... Why now?

Sun-Mi is still holding the bottle, when she hears the front door open and close.

She puts the bottle back, and turns to face the entrance vestibule.

The door opens, and her father comes in.

Gwi-Sung.......... You're home tonight again, Sun-Mi?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes.

He notices her apron, and the dust cloth in her hand.

Gwi-Sung.......... Cleaning?

Sun-Mi.............. Now that I have some time free, I decided the house needed a good Spring cleaning.

Gwi-Sung.......... You're not helping Woo-Jin every day anymore?

Sun-Mi.............. No. (she laughs) We decided to break up and call off the wedding.

Her father reacts in surprise.

Gwi-Sung.......... Was it really that serious? You and Woo-Jin were planning to marry?

She laughs.

Sun-Mi.............. No. I was just joking.

He laughs.

Gwi-Sung.......... Then if you two aren't together, it opens the door for the elders to make a move.

Now it is Sun-Mi's turn to be surprised.

Sun-Mi.............. Daddy! Are you serious? Marry Aunty?

He laughs, seeing her confused expression.

Gwi-Sung.......... No. I'm just joking, too!

SCENE: Director Kim's office, afternoon

Director Kim's secretary comes to the door of his office.

Eun-Ki.............. Yes?

Secretary.......... It's Director Yoon Hyung-Chul.

Eun-Ki.............. Tell him to come in.

Eun-Ki stands up at his desk.

Eun-Ki.............. Come in. Have you eaten lunch?

Hyung-Chul....... Yes.

Eun-Ki.............. Take a seat.

He gestures to a chair at the side of the conference table, taking the adjacent chair himself.

Hyung-Chul sits down.

Hyung-Chul....... Why did you call me?

Eun-Ki.............. Your youth concert ratings were high. You're pretty good at marketing.

Hyung-Chul looks away, upset with the veiled criticism, as Kim laughs.

Eun-Ki.............. No need to be embarrassed, everything is done by ratings anyways.

Hyung-Chul looks back at Eun-Ki uncomfortably.

Eun-Ki.............. You must be pretty excited about this, huh?

The intercom beeps.

Eun-Ki.............. Yes?

Secretary.......... Announcer Huh Young-Mi has arrived.

Hyung-Chul looks at the door at Young-Mi walks in.

Eun-Ki.............. Miss Huh Young-Mi. Come in.

Young-Mi closes the door.

Eun-Ki.............. I called her over.

He laughs.

Eun-Ki.............. Have a seat.

Young-Mi dips her head respectfully and sits in the chair next to Hyung-Chul.

Eun-Ki.............. Miss Huh Young-Mi, you look very nice.

Young-Mi.......... Thank you.

Eun-Ki.............. Oh, yeah, do you like operas and other cultural shows?

Young-Mi glances at Director Kim, then at Hyung-Chul.

Eun-Ki.............. You know about that arts and culture project I have, right?

Hyung-Chul looks up at Eun-Ki, wondering what Young-Mi will say.

Eun-Ki.............. I want to make a decent program this time. Miss Huh Young-Mi, do you want to work together?

Young-Mi appears undecided about how to respond.

Hyung-Chul turns to look at her.

Hyung-Chul....... I think the image is going to clash with Eve's Morning.

Eun-Ki.............. Hmm... We should let her decide.

Eun-Ki points at Young-Mi.

Eun-Ki.............. This is a good opportunity. It's at a good time and it'll give her a good image.

....................... This program isn't like Youth Concert where people wear skimpy clothing.

His repeated cuts perturb Hyung-Chul.

Young-Mi.......... Thank you for this opportunity ...

She looks at Eun-Ki, who smiles back and chuckles. as if expecting her to decide his way.

Young-Mi.......... ... but I must reject it.

Hyung-Chul looks at Young-Mi as if her answer surprised him.

Young-Mi.......... I'd like to be on Eve's Morning. I believe in Director Yoon. I'll follow what Director Yoon wants.

Pleased that she is following the script exactly as planned, Eun-Ki 'accepts' the defeat with a laugh ...

Eun-Ki.............. I thought you were very ambitious. Have you become another fan of Director Yoon?

SCENE: MBS 10F lift lobby, afternoon

The door to the executive office suites opens.

Hyung-Chul steps out and a secretary closes the door after him.

He starts walking toward the lift lobby.

Young-Mi is waiting in the corridor for Hyung-Chul. When she sees him, she confidently approaches.

Young-Mi.......... Please give me a reward.

Hyung-Chul....... Miss Huh Young-Mi?

Young-Mi.......... I told you right? I'm your right arm now. You didn't want me to do it, right?

Hyung-Chul....... It goes against our program.

Young-Mi regards his approval happily.

Young-Mi.......... Are you going to give me a reward?

SCENE: Director Kim's office, evening

Director Kim Eun-Ki is at his desk, talking on the phone to his sister, Eun-Ok.

Eun-Ki.............. Things went just as expected. The rumor mills are churning already.

Eun-Ok............. (V.O.) I put out some anonymous leaks. The media will pick up the scent soon, if they haven't yet.

Eun-Ki.............. But can we count on Park Su-Jin to follow through?

Eun-Ok............. Not to worry. Director Park and his daughter have an old vendetta against the Yoons.

Eun-Ki.............. I didn't know that.

Eun-Ok............. Now, we just sit back and watch. This should be interesting!

She laughs.

Eun-Ok............. Yoon Hyung-Chul's life is about to become a lot more complicated, very soon ...

SCENE: Bus stop, evening

Sun-Mi is on her way home after work, waiting at the bus stop.

Brooding over Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin, doubts have shaken the certainty she had expressed to Joo-Hee ...

Sun-Mi.............. (V.O.) Senior's not the kind of person who would break up behind my back ...

She replays in her mind the scene she was not supposed to have seen ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from earlier this episode, on the MBS rooftop]

Su-Jin............... For old time's sake -- 'English style' -- remember? That was how you always sent me off.

Sun-Mi.............. What if he caves to temptation? Could he go back to Su-Jin?

The ringing of her mobile breaks Sun-Mi away from the distressing thoughts.

Opening her bag, she fishes the phone out and flips it open.

Sun-Mi.............. Yes? ... Aunty?

Jin-Suk............. (V.O.) It's Woo-Jin ... He's not answering his phone...

Sun-Mi.............. Don't worry. He's working late again, and probably was just busy.

Jin-Suk............. You don't know? ... He started drinking again ... last night he came home and could hardly walk ...

Hearing this, Sun-Mi is shocked.

Jin-Suk............. I'll never rest peacefully in my grave, if my only son is a useless drunk.

Sounds of sobbing come over the line.

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty, don't say that!

Jin-Suk............. Please, Sun-Mi! ... Go to him again! He listens to you.

Sun-Mi.............. But, I don't know where he is.

Jin-Suk............. Find Woo-Jin! Do something -- anything -- to save him!

Act 4 - Part 3

SCENE: MBS main lobby, evening

Sun-Mi pushes through the revolving door, entering the MBS main lobby.

Sun-Mi.............. Maybe someone's still in the camera office who might know where he is.

As she crosses the lobby, she sees the live newscast on a TV monitor.

Sun-Dal............ (O.S.) This is end of our the MBS 7 o'clock newscast. Have a good evening.

As she watches the monitor, an idea strikes Sun-Mi ...

Sun-Mi.............. If anyone would know where Woo-Jin is, it's Young-Mi ...

SCENE: MBS makeup room, evening

The door to the makeup room opens, and Sun-Mi walks in.

Focused on her reflection in the mirror, Young-Mi is removing her makeup.

Sun-Mi approaches, glowering angrily.

Sun-Mi.............. (sharply) Huh Young-Mi!

Young-Mi looks up.

Young-Mi.......... What brings you here, at this hour?

Sun-Mi.............. Where is Woo-Jin?

Young-Mi.......... You're asking me? Aren't you the one keeping him on a short leash?

Sun-Mi.............. His mother said he's drinking again. Did you know that?

Young-Mi.......... (indifferently) It's none of my business. We don't have that kind of relationship anymore.

Realizing that her anger isn't making any headway, Sun-Mi lowers her voice ...

Sun-Mi.............. If you know anything, for his mother's sake ... tell me, so I can go and take him home.

Young-Mi smirks, happy that her rival is forced to begging.

Young-Mi.......... Why would that woman want help from a 'weed'?

Sitting down in the adjacent chair, Sun-Mi reaches out and takes Young-Mi's hand.

Sun-Mi.............. Please! If you want me to kneel, I will.

She is about to get up, but Young-Mi speaks first ...

Young-Mi.......... There's no need for that.

She extracts her hand from Sun-Mi's grasp.

Young-Mi.......... After we finished work, Woo-Jin said something about going to Mapo-gu.

Sun-Mi.............. Mapo?

Young-Mi.......... There's a bar where he and I used to often go for drinks.

She takes a slip of paper and a pen from her bag.

Young-Mi.......... Perhaps he went there, to reminisce old times ...

She writes on the paper, and hands it to Sun-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... These are the directions.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Sun-Mi clutches the paper in her hand.

Sun-Mi.............. Thank you, Young-Mi. I owe you ...

Young-Mi.......... (seriously) Remember you said that, when I come to collect on the favor ...

She goes back to working on her makeup.

Young-Mi.......... Now please go. I don't have time to chit-chat. I have to get ready for a date.

Sun-Mi.............. Date?

Young-Mi.......... Director Yoon is treating me tonight.

Sun-Mi stares at Young-Mi, surprised. Then sadness dims her face.

Sun-Mi.............. Then, I'll be leaving first. Thanks again, for your help.

Young-Mi looks into the mirror at Sun-Mi, but doesn't reply.

Sun-Mi stands up and slowly turns, then leaves the room.

Watching Sun-Mi go out, a devious smile curls her lips as Young-Mi's conceives her next scheme ...

SCENE: Inside Hyung-Chul's car, evening

Young-Mi is riding in Hyung-Chul's car.

Young-Mi.......... It's nice of you to do this.

Hyung-Chul....... You've worked hard, and made a personal sacrifice for our team. You deserve it.

Young-Mi.......... As I promised, I won't betray you, ever, regardless of what happens.

He nods.

Hyung-Chul....... What would you like to do? Dinner? Drinks?

Young-Mi.......... It doesn't have to be anything special. We can just go for a drink.

Hyung-Chul....... (nods) Any place you like, then.

Young-Mi.......... There's a bar not far from here, in Mapo-gu. They make a good martini.

Hyung-Chul....... Mapo?

Young-Mi.......... Yes. I'll give you the directions ...

SCENE: Bar near MBS, evening

Sun-Mi enters a bar near MBS, looking for Woo-Jin.

Hostess............ Please come in.

She exhales a sharp sigh of relief when she sees him, at a table, drinking.

Upset at his relapse, she marches over and sits down in the adjacent chair, frowning sternly to show her displeasure.

Woo-Jin turns his head to look at Sun-Mi for a moment, then ignores her as he downs another shot of J&B scotch.

Frustrated, she glares at him, thinking -- If he's going to act like an idiot, Ill show him what an idiot looks like!

Sun-Mi.............. (to the bartender) Sir, please give me a drink. Your strongest stuff!

Bartender.......... Right away.

Meanwhile, Woo-Jin downs another shot.

When Sun-Mi's drink arrives, she takes a small sip, but immediately gags, covering her mouth as she coughs.

She puts the drink down, admitting her failed ploy.

As if Woo-Jin cared. He picks up the bottle, but Sun-Mi grabs it from his hand.

Sun-Mi.............. Don't drink, please!

Undeterred by her plea, Woo-Jin pulls the bottle from her grasp.

Sun-Mi.............. You said you wouldn't drink.

She grabs at the bottle again as he pours.

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa!

He forcefully tears the bottle from her hands. Sun-Mi stares angrily as he pours himself another drink.

Frustrated, she looks away, just in time to see Young-Mi and Hyung-Chul coming into the bar.

Hostess............ Welcome.

Young-Mi and Hyung-Chul stop in their tracks when they see Sun-Mi and Woo-Jin at the table.

Sun-Mi awkwardly looks away from Hyung-Chul, as the 'coincidence' of their appearance hits home ...

Woo-Jin glances over his shoulder at Young-Mi. Their eyes briefly meet, then Young-Mi contemptuously looks away.

If Hyung-Chul is bothered by seeing Sun-Mi with Woo-Jin, he doesn't show it.

He follows Young-Mi to the bar, where she slides onto a barstool first.

He places his briefcase on the adjacent bar stool as he sits down.

Young-Mi.......... (to the bartender) Please give me a martini.

Sun-Mi watches impassively while Woo-Jin pours another drink, wondering what she should do now.

Young-Mi.......... (to Hyung-Chul) What would you like?

Resting her chin in her hand, she smiles at him.

He glances at her briefly, then turns to speak to the bartender ...

Hyung-Chul....... Please give me the same.

Meanwhile, Sun-Mi frets as Woo-Jin keeps on drinking, unwilling to argue with him in front of Hyung-Chul and Young-Mi.

At the bar Young-Mi engages Hyung-Chul in conversation ...

Young-Mi.......... Oh yeah, were there any changes to Eve's Morning?

Hyung-Chul....... You haven't seen the project sheet yet?

He puts his briefcase up on the bar, and starts to turn the combination on the clasp.

Young-Mi.......... What do you use for your combination? Usually people use phone numbers or birthdays.

Hyung-Chul watches Sun-Mi from the corner of his eye as he replies matter-of-factly ...

Hyung-Chul....... It's 0-6-0-7 ...

Hyung-Chul....... It's my best friend's birthday.

Sun-Mi is surprised when she hears this, wondering -- did he say that deliberately, to spite me since I'm with Woo-Jin?

Woo-Jin looks up at Sun-Mi, amused at the irony.

Woo-Jin............ That's your birthday.

Sun-Mi, at a loss for words, doesn't reply.

Then Woo-Jin, suddenly feeling sick to his stomach, gets up and runs for the door.

Sun-Mi stands to follow, but Hyung-Chul stops her.

Hyung-Chul....... Stay there. I'll deal with him.

Sun-Mi watches Hyung-Chul leave, then looks over at Young-Mi.

Young-Mi, acting nonchalant as if nothing has happened, takes a sip from her drink.

SCENE: Street outside the bar, night

Outside the bar, Woo-Jin leans against a car and vomits.

Hyung-Chul walks up behind him, watching him for a moment, then goes over to Woo-Jin.

He takes his arm and pats his back.

Woo-Jin............ I'm fine.

Hyung-Chul continues to pat his back.

Woo-Jin............ I said I'm fine!

He pushes Hyung-Chul's hand off his arm.

Woo-Jin............ What are you doing right now? What are you doing leaving Sun-Mi like that?

He glares at Hyung-Chul, waiting for his answer.

Hyung-Chul takes a deep breath first, then replies ...

Hyung-Chul....... Just like there's only Young-Mi for you, Sun-Mi's the only one for me.

....................... That's why I have to let her do what she wants.

Woo-Jin vomits again.

SCENE: Bar near MBS, night

Young-Mi leaves the barstool and walks over to Sun-Mi. She puts her glass on the table as she sits down.

Sun-Mi doesn't look at her.

Young-Mi.......... When Kim Woo-Jin comes in would you go and disappear with him?

Sun-Mi.............. You're really evil. Who did Woo-Jin do this all for?

Young-Mi cuts her off angrily.

Young-Mi.......... Yeah, for me! It's because of me. So what? What's wrong with that?

Sun-Mi looks away, incredulous.

Sun-Mi.............. After scarring Woo-Jin like that ... How can a human do this?

Young-Mi.......... That's how the world naturally is ...

She smirks at Sun-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... If someone like me hurts people, then can't people like you hug and comfort them? ...

Sun-Mi doesn't answer, just looks away, disgusted.

Young-Mi.......... Isn't that Young-Mi's and Sun-Mi's roles?

SCENE: Street outside the bar, night

Woo-Jin finishes emptying his stomach into the street gutter.

Hyung-Chul....... Better?

Woo-Jin............ Yeah.

Hyung-Chul....... Before we go back in, there is something I have to say.

Woo-Jin............ Whatever it is, I don't need it.

Hyung-Chul....... Hear me out, anyway ...

Woo-Jin looks at him questioningly, but nods.

SCENE: Bar near MBS, night

Meanwhile Young-Mi's squabble with Sun-Mi continues ...

Sun-Mi.............. You deliberately brought Senior here, because you knew I was with Woo-Jin, didn't you?

Young-Mi.......... Is that what you think?

Sun-Mi.............. Why else, then?

Young-Mi.......... Perhaps to make him see reality, that waiting for you any longer is useless.

Sun-Mi.............. Do you really think he'll go to you?

A smile plays on Young-Mi's lips.

Young-Mi.......... Why not? Inside, all men are alike. I've always been able to get any man I wanted.

Sun-Mi.............. Senior is different. He's nobody's fool. Your cheap tricks won't sway him.

Young-Mi.......... How can you be so certain?

Sun-Mi.............. Because ... he made a solemn promise that he'd wait for me. That's why.

Sun-Mi smiles confidently to impress Young-Mi, even though she questions the truth of her own words.

Young-Mi.......... He -- he made that promise?

Sun-Mi.............. Yes. And everyone knows that Senior is a man of his word.

SCENE: Street outside the bar, night

Hyung-Chul and Woo-Jin are walking back toward the bar entrance as they talk.

Hyung-Chul....... Sun-Mi is giving everything for you. Why don't you try harder to correct your behavior?

Woo-Jin............ (scoffing) What do you know about it?

Hyung-Chul....... I know family comes first for Sun-Mi. Before her own happiness. But your behavior is tearing her up.

Woo-Jin knows he is guilty as charged, but rather than admitting it, challenges Hyung-Chul ...

Woo-Jin............ You say Sun-Mi is the only one for you. Yet every time, you show up with another woman!

The accusation pricks ...

Hyung-Chul....... My work is separate from my personal life. Sun-Mi knows that.

Woo-Jin............ It certainly doesn't look that way to me!

Hyung-Chul....... What do you know about it?

Woo-Jin............ I know Sun-Mi. She'll never say anything for her own happiness. But your behavior is tearing her up.

Having his own words tossed back at him bring an ironic grin to Hyung-Chul's face.

Hyung-Chul....... Okay, I get it. We're both wrong by Sun-Mi. But it's not by my choice.

Woo-Jin............ (scoffing) Then you're more useless than me. Shall we go back in and share a drink of bitterness?

Hyung-Chul....... Better, let's collect the ladies, and I'll send you home.

SCENE: Bar near MBS, night

Faced with the likelihood her efforts won't win over Hyung-Chul, Young-Mi drops her smirk and pleads desperately ...

Young-Mi.......... Sun-Mi, please. Take Woo-Jin ...

Sun-Mi looks at Young-Mi, incredulous.

Young-Mi.......... You can be the main anchor. I'll give you everything. Just let me have Director Yoon ...

Sun-Mi's anger intensifies as she listens to Young-Mi's desperate appeal.

Young-Mi.......... It's the one thing out of the many things you have. Let me have Director Yoon, please?

Sun-Mi glares at Young-Mi, finally provoked to the limit.

Sun-Mi.............. Give up!

Young-Mi is stone-faced at Sun-Mi's refusal to deal.

Sun-Mi.............. Give up, Young-Mi!

Young-Mi.......... I can't. I can't give up. I've bet everything on him. I can't stop here. If I stop, it's the end.

Sun-Mi.............. There's no such thing as "can't stop". You just don't want to stop.

Sun-Mi stands up. Young-Mi quickly stands and steps up to challenge Sun-Mi.

Young-Mi.......... Tell me you're backing down.

Sun-Mi.............. Up to now, I didn't know why you and I always had to fight.

....................... But now I think I know. I'm going to make you stop.

They glare at each other, until Sun-Mi looks away when she hears Hyung-Chul helping Woo-Jin into the pub.

Sun-Mi grabs Woo-Jin's and her own bags and hurries over to the two men.

She stops, looking at Hyung-Chul apologetically.

Sun-Mi.............. I'm sorry.

Sun-Mi takes Woo-Jin by the arm.

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa! Wake up. Wake up!

Hyung-Chul watches Sun-Mi leave with Woo-Jin, then looks at Young-Mi for her reaction.

Young-Mi nods and looks down, fidgeting self-consciously with her hair.

SCENE: Inside a taxi, night

Sun-Mi is riding in the back seat of a taxi with Woo-Jin.

He is resting, eyes closed.

She is talking on her mobile.

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty? ... I'm sending Woo-Jin home right now ... Yes, he was drinking ...

She looks over at Woo-Jin and sighs ...

Sun-Mi.............. Okay, see you there. Bye.

She folds her phone, and sympathetically takes his hand, holding it as affirmation of her concern and affection ...

Sun-Mi.............. How hard it must still be ... I promise, I won't give up until you're completely over Young-Mi.

SCENE: In the bar, night

After Sun-Mi left with Woo-Jin, Hyung-Chul and Young-Mi stay on at the bar, seated at the table.

He watches as she finishes off the last of a martini.

Young-Mi.......... Bartender? ... Bring me another.

Bartender.......... Yes.

Hyung-Chul looks at her with concern ...

Hyung-Chul....... Announcer Huh ...

She interrupts him with a knowing look in her eyes.

Young-Mi.......... You're going to say I've had enough?

She sighs.

Young-Mi.......... Even though we've broken up, seeing Woo-Jin with Sun-Mi is hard. You feel the same too, right?

He looks at her impassively.

Young-Mi.......... Knowing the one you love loves someone else, helpless to do anything, I know that feeling too well.

Hyung-Chul....... It's late. Let's go.

She smiles at his unwillingness to discuss the matter, or even acknowledge it.

Young-Mi.......... We're not so different, actually. We just each have our own way to deal with the pain ...

SCENE: Woo-Jin's bedroom, night

Sun-Mi helps Woo-Jin into his bedroom and onto the bed.

Sun-Mi.............. I called your mom. She'll be here soon.

She puts Woo-Jin's bag on the bed.

Changing her mind, she moves it to the floor as she talks.

Sun-Mi.............. I'm going now. You have a business trip tomorrow. I'll see you tomorrow, OK?

She turns to leave the room.

Woo-Jin............ Jin Sun-Mi ...

Sun-Mi stops and turns to look at Woo-Jin.

Woo-Jin............ (angrily) You get away from me!

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa!

Woo-Jin............ I love Young-Mi, don't you get it?! ... I've never looked at you as a woman!

Sun-Mi stares at Woo-Jin, not knowing what to say.

Woo-Jin............ Seeing you reminds me of her, which makes me dislike you.

....................... I don't want to compare you with Young-Mi.

Even though she knows it's the alcohol talking, Woo-Jin's angry tirade cuts deeply.

Sun-Mi.............. Oppa ...

She watches Woo-Jin as he lies on the bed with his eyes closed ...

SCENE: Outside Young-Mi's apartment, night

Hyung-Chul stops his car at the curb outside Young-Mi's apartment building, leaving the engine running.

He looks over at Young-Mi.

Hyung-Chul....... We're here.

Young-Mi.......... Yes.

She reaches for the seat belt buckle, fumbling for the release.

Hyung-Chul leans over and unfastens it for her.

Hyung-Chul....... Announcer Huh, are you all right?

Turning her head slowly, she looks at him with a twisted smile.

Young-Mi.......... Yes, I'm "fine", Director, if that means being drunk enough to not feel the pain.

Hyung-Chul....... Tonight wasn't much of a reward, was it?

Young-Mi.......... That's only my own fault, not yours ...

Hyung-Chul....... You're really okay?

SCENE: Woo-Jin's bedroom, night

Watching Woo-Jin lie on the bed, Sun-Mi recalls the night he came to her home, drunk then too ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 15, in Sun-Mi's living room]

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi Will you marry me? Even if only for a month, or a year ...

Sun-Mi.............. (softly) You said you'd marry me ...

Woo-Jin opens his eyes.

Sun-Mi.............. But now you tell me to get away from you? That's cruel. This isn't like you, Oppa.

Woo-Jin............ Sun-Mi ... I ...

Her mobile rings, interrupting him.

She takes it from her bag and flips it open, glancing at the caller ID.

Sun-Mi.............. Aunty? ... Yes, we're at home now ...

She glances toward Woo-Jin.

Sun-Mi.............. I see ... Sure, I'll do that. Don't worry ... Bye.

Closing her phone, she turns to fill Woo-Jin in on her conversation ....

Sun-Mi.............. Your mom said the assistant manager just called in sick. She can't come until morning.

She returns the phone to her bag as she continues ...

Sun-Mi.............. Get cleaned up while I make some hangover medicine. Then you can sleep comfortably.

He looks at her, irritated.

Woo-Jin............ What is it with you? Why don't you stop?

She smiles.

Sun-Mi.............. Stop? Just because of a few drunken words? ... I don't scare off that easily!

SCENE: Outside Young-Mi's apartment, night

Young-Mi opens the car door and turns in the seat, placing both feet together on the pavement.

Young-Mi.......... Thank you for sending me home.

With one hand on the door, she pulls herself up, standing unsteadily.

Bending down, she looks back into the car at Hyung-Chul.

Young-Mi.......... I'll see you at work tomorrow.

Hyung-Chul....... Good night.

Tottering precariously on her high heels, Young-Mi staggers a meandering path toward the entrance of her building.

She stumbles, but catches herself before falling, then resumes her wobbly walk.

Watching, Hyung-Chul feels certain Young-Mi will not make it safely into her apartment.

He cuts the engine, gets out, and quickly goes to Young-Mi, cautioning her ...

Hyung-Chul....... Be careful!

As he nears, she lets out a small cry of surprise as she stumbles again.

But Hyung-Chul moves quickly, wrapping his arm around Young-Mi's shoulders to support her.

Young-Mi.......... Thanks.

Hyung-Chul....... Lean on me. I'll help you inside.

She looks into his eyes appreciatively ...

Young-Mi.......... I suppose I'm not so "fine" after all ...

SCENE: Woo-Jin's bathroom, night

In his bathroom, Woo-Jin is taking a shower ...

SCENE: Woo-Jin's home, night

Meanwhile ...

In the kitchen, Sun-Mi prepares the hangover medicine for Woo-Jin, stirring the dark liquid in a ceramic mug.

Leaving leaves the kitchen, she hears the sound of running water through the closed bathroom door.

Deciding to wait until Woo-Jin finishes showering, she places the cup on the coffee table, and sits on the couch.

With time to kill, Sun-Mi recalls Jin-Suk's anguished pleading ...

Jin-Suk............. (V.O.) I'll never rest peacefully in my grave, if my only son is a useless drunk.

....................... Woo-Jin listens to you ... Do something -- anything -- to save him!

Her thoughts go back to the confrontation with Young-Mi earlier that night ...

FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, in the bar]

Young-Mi.......... If someone like me hurts people, then can't someone like you hug and comfort them?

Young-Mi.......... Isn't that Young-Mi's and Sun-Mi's roles?

Sun-Mi.............. Young-Mi is right. We have different ways ... and mine isn't working.

She sighs dejectedly.

Sun-Mi.............. I have to do something ... anything ... but what?

SCENE: Young-Mi's apartment, night

The door into Young-Mi's apartment swings open.

Hyung-Chul, guiding and supporting Young-Mi, helps her inside.

Hyung-Chul....... Careful.

Young-Mi.......... Yes.

They slowly cross the apartment to the bed, where she sits down.

Hyung-Chul....... Rest awhile, and you'll be fine.

Young-Mi.......... Thanks.

Hyung-Chul....... I'll go now.

He turns to leave, but she reaches out to touch his arm.

Young-Mi.......... Wait.

Wary, he turns back to hear what she has to say, suspecting a trick like before ...

FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 11, in Hyung-Chul's villa]

When Young-Mi feigns illness and stumbles, Hyung-Chul catches her in his arms ...

Hyung-Chul....... What is it?

Young-Mi.......... There's something I need to confess to yo --

A dry-heave interrupts her.

Covering her mouth, Young-Mi stands. Staggering to the bathroom, she slams the door closed.

Coming after her, Hyung-Chul hears the sound of vomiting through the closed door.

He knocks lightly.

Hyung-Chul....... Young-Mi, are you all right?

He hears more retching, then the toilet flushing.

SCENE: Young-Mi's bathroom, night

In the bathroom, Young-Mi stands beside the toilet, her hand on the flush button.

She calls out to Hyung-Chul with a wavering voice ...

Young-Mi.......... I ... I think I'm ... better now ...

Hyung-Chul....... (O.S.) Good. Should we talk another time?

Young-Mi.......... No -- I'll be out. Give me a few minutes to clean up.

Hyung-Chul....... No hurry. Take your time.

Young-Mi.......... Umm, Director Yoon? Would you make coffee?

SCENE: Woo-Jin's home, night

Sitting on the couch, Sun-Mi mulls over Woo-Jin's words ...

Woo-Jin............ (V.O.) You don't compare with Young-Mi ... I've never looked at you as a woman.

Irritated, she frowns.

Sun-Mi.............. What is he saying, I'm not a woman? ... What I'm not, is his "little sister" anymore!

She remembers Young-Mi's criticism one day at the office ...

FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 8, in an MBS Ladies' washroom]

Young-Mi.......... Sun-Mi. you look too young and immature. Don't put on pink powder ... That will make it worse ...

Young-Mi.......... Use something like my makeup.

Sun-Mi picks up her office bag and reaches inside for her compact makeup palette.

Opening the kit, she scrutinizes her reflection in the mirror ...

Sun-Mi.............. What would it take so Woo-Jin would see me as a mature woman?

SCENE: Woo-Jin's bathroom, night

After his shower, Woo-Jin stands at the bathroom mirror, contemplating the situation with Sun-Mi ...

FLASHBACK [Previous scenes from Episode 16]

Woo-Jin............ I don't need a nanny watching over me! ... Why are you doing this?

Sun-Mi.............. Because -- that's who I am!

Sun-Mi.............. You spent the night with Young-Mi? How could you do that to me?!

Woo-Jin............ Let's stop this, Sun-Mi. I'll only keep hurting you.

Sun-Mi.............. We need to stay closer together.

Woo-Jin............ Caring for me 24/7 will wear you out.

Sun-Mi.............. Worrying about you 24/7 will wear me out even more!

Sun-Mi.............. I'm a shameless person. Why would Senior keep his promise to take me back?

Woo-Jin............ You've done nothing to be ashamed of. If Director Yoon won't accept you back, then ...

....................... I promise, I won't leave you in the lurch. In that case, Sun-Mi ... I'll marry you.

Woo-Jin............ I appreciate what you've done, Sun-Mi, but it's time to live your own life again.

....................... Go back to Director Yoon, before it's too late. I can take care of myself.

Woo-Jin............ Don't you get it?! ... I've never looked at you as a woman!

....................... I don't want to compare you with Young-Mi ...

Sun-Mi.............. You said you'd marry me ... But now you tell me to get away from you?

....................... That's cruel. This isn't like you, Oppa.

Woo-Jin............ What is it with you? Why don't you stop?

Sun-Mi.............. Stop? Just because of a few drunken words? ... I don't scare off that easily!

Frustrated, Woo-Jin slams his fist down onto the countertop.

Woo-Jin............ Jin Sun-Mi! ... Why can't you just leave me alone? ... Why won't you stop?

He sighs deeply.

Woo-Jin............ I'm trying to forget, but I still remember everything about you ...

SCENE: Woo-Jin's home, night

Sun-Mi is inspecting her face in the compact mirror.

Sun-Mi.............. (musing aloud to herself) Is it enough to get Woo-Jin's attention?

....................... Or should I do something more sexy ... like Park Su-Jin?

Taking hold of her skirt, Sun-Mi stands and lifts the hem ...

Looking down, she surveys her legs critically ...

Sun-Mi.............. Maybe not.

She drops her skirt and sits down again, challenging herself ...

Sun-Mi.............. I need to do something bold, something that will shock Woo-Jin back to his senses.

Her eyes flash with a spark of inspiration.

Sun-Mi.............. If I were Young-Mi ... What would she do? How far would she go?

She already knows the answer ...

Pondering the possible consequences, she muses ...

Sun-Mi.............. Can Sun-Mi become Young-Mi ... for one night?

Bending down, Sun-Mi removes the anklet from her right leg.

FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, in Hangang Park at dawn]

Sun-Mi.............. Senior, you said it was the last time to help them when Woo-Jin and Young-Mi went to England.

Sun-Mi.............. But I don't see it as the last time ...

Sun-Mi looks over at the bathroom door and takes a deep breath, gathering her courage.

Setting the anklet on the glass coffee table, she vows ...

Sun-Mi.............. This time, Woo-Jin ... This will be the last time ...

SCENE: Young-Mi's apartment, night

Waiting while Young-Mi cleans up, Hyung-Chul sits at her desk, reading a magazine.

Beside him, two mugs of freshly-made coffee are steaming.

Young-Mi's voice comes through the closed bathroom door ...

Young-Mi.......... (V.O.) Sorry it's taking so long.

Hyung-Chul....... No hurry. Coffee is ready.

Young-Mi.......... I appreciate your willingness to stay and hear me out.

Hyung-Chul....... It's a supervisor's responsibility to make an effort for his employees.

Young-Mi.......... But I sense it's not just duty, but a sincere concern. That's why I feel I can be open to you.

Hyung-Chul hears the bathroom door latch as Young-Mi comes out.

Looking up from the magazine, he glances her way -- then does a double take.

Seeing his surprised reaction, she self-consciously explains ...

Young-Mi.......... My clothes reeked. This is all I had to change into ...
