Joo-Hee and Sun-Mi are riding together in the back seat of a taxi after leaving the club ...
Joo-Hee looks over at Sun-Mi, whose attention is focused outside on the passing streetscape.
Joo-Hee............ Sun-Mi, are you all right? You've spoken hardly a word since we came out.
Sun-Mi turns toward Joo-Hee.
Sun-Mi.............. Sorry, I had a lot to think about tonight, Senior.
Joo-Hee............ You had a lot to drink tonight, too. I can send you first, to be sure you get home safely.
Sun-Mi smiles to soften her irritation at being patronized ...
Sun-Mi.............. There's no need. I'm not that drunk! I'll be fine. Besides, we're almost to your place.
Backing off, Joo-Hee is apologetic.
Joo-Hee............ Of course.
Driver............... Excuse me, ladies. Which way now?
Joo-Hee............ (to the driver) Turn left at the next street, then to the third house on the right.
Driver............... Got it.
Joo-Hee............ Sun-Mi, do consider what I said seriously. I don't want you to be hurt.
Sun-Mi.............. Until I know differently, I'm going to trust Senior. I owe him at least that.
....................... I can't be suspicious every time he's with an attractive woman.
Joo-Hee nods.
Joo-Hee............ I can understand. I just hope history doesn't repeat itself.
The driver slows the taxi and stops.
Joo-Hee opens her door.
Joo-Hee............ I'll see you tomorrow at the office.
Sun-Mi.............. Yes. Good night.
Joo-Hee alights from the taxi and shuts the door, and the car starts moving again.
Soon Sun-Mi returns to her pensive thoughts ...
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, at the Han River]
Hyung-Chul. Help Woo-Jin. If you're the only one who can, do it.
Hyung-Chul. If you marry him, then I'll stop waiting for you. But until then, I'll wait ... I promise ...
|
Sun-Mi.............. (quietly to herself) But did that promise cover Park Su-Jin coming back?
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, at the MBS building main entrance]
Su-Jin............... Fate has brought us back together again, after so many years.
Su-Jin............... What does the 'Goddess of Love' think? Is True Love fated, Miss Jin?
|
Sun-Mi.............. And have things already gone too far with Woo-Jin, to go back to Senior?
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, in Woo-Jin's bedroom]
Sun-Mi.............. Tell me ... how far do I have to go, before you accept me as a woman?
Woo-Jin............ If I see you as a woman, then I'll want you to always stay beside me.
Sun-Mi.............. Don't you love Young-Mi?
Woo-Jin............ Being with Young-Mi is more like obsession than love. It's you who I'm drinking to forget ...
|
Sun-Mi.............. And tomorrow, I'm supposed to choose my wedding dress!
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, in Woo-Jin's house]
Jin-Suk............. It's time that you and Woo-Jin got married. ... I've already picked the date ...
|
Sun-Mi.............. How can I marry Woo-Jin with a clear conscience, unless I settle things first with Senior?
....................... I'll always be wondering 'what if' otherwise ...
She opens her bag and takes out her mobile. Flipping it open, she hesitates before making the call.
Sun-Mi.............. What if he's still out with Park Su-Jin? ... or upset from what I said ...
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode16, on the MBS rooftop]
Sun-Mi.............. From now on, ignore me ... don't speak to me, or call me, or leave me cards ...
Sun-Mi.............. Don't even look at me, and ... please erase all the pictures you've taken of me with your eyes ...
|
Sun-Mi.............. If I go to his place, he'll have to talk to me then ... won't he?
She puts the phone back into her bag. Leaning forward, she speaks to the driver ...
Sun-Mi.............. Sir? I've changed my mind. Take me to Bundang instead.
Driver............... Yes.
Hyung-Chul is driving back to his villa with Su-Jin after leaving the restaurant.
Su-Jin............... I hope I didn't offend you tonight.
Hyung-Chul....... No need to apologize for expressing your feelings. It's better that everything is in the open.
Su-Jin............... Yes, but where to go from here?
Hyung-Chul....... It's simple. We agree to disagree about a closer relationship.
Su-Jin............... When you say it like that, it seems like smooth sailing up here ...
She taps her temple with her finger.
Su-Jin............... But in here ...
She rests her hand over her heart.
Su-Jin............... The weather isn't quite so predictable.
[ Beeping sounds ]
Hyung-Chul looks at the speaker phone display. The incoming call is from 'Chairman Yoon'.
He looks over at Su-Jin apologetically.
She nods for him to pick up.
Hyung-Chul presses the answer button ...
Hyung-Chul....... Yes, Father?
Hoe-Jang.......... Why haven't you returned my calls?
Hyung-Chul....... I had a busy day. Can't this wait until tomorrow?
Hoe-Jang.......... Tomorrow it will be public. I wanted to give you a heads up.
Hyung-Chul....... Go on.
Hoe-Jang.......... The Yoos have decided to withhold their support for you as CEO. I don't know what happened.
....................... Director Yoo hasn't returned my calls. Perhaps you could speak to Joo-Hee?
Hyung-Chul....... Sure. I'll do that tomorrow.
Hoe-Jang.......... That's all. Good night.
Hyung-Chul puts on the signal and slows the BMW Z3 to turn into the drive of his villa complex.
Su-Jin............... Does this means you will lose to Director Kim?
Hyung-Chul....... We still might be able to sway some Board members, but it's not likely.
He pulls into a parking space and turns off the engine.
They both open their doors to get out of the car.
SCENE: Outside Hyung-Chul's villa
A taxi slows and stops by the entrance to Hyung-Chul's villa complex.
The rear passenger door opens, and Sun-Mi alights. She closes the car door, and the taxi drives off.
Walking toward the entrance, Sun-Mi sees Hyung-Chul and Su-Jin get out of the BMW.
She decides to wait and watch, remaining by the gate house.
Hyung-Chul waits by the car while Su-Jin comes around to the driver's side.
Hyung-Chul....... Here.
He hands her the car keys.
Hyung-Chul....... This was fun. Thanks for the chance to drive.
Su-Jin............... Sure. Any time.
Hyung-Chul....... I hope everything works out as you settle matters regarding your father.
Su-Jin............... Thank you.
Hyung-Chul....... Then, good bye.
He starts to turn away to go inside.
But she isn't ready to call it a night yet ...
Su-Jin............... Wait ...
Hyung-Chul stops to listen.
Su-Jin............... Regarding those matters ... there's something you should know.
Hyung-Chul....... Yes?
Su-Jin............... My father instructed the estate trustee to vote against you, out of revenge.
Hyung-Chul....... I don't blame you. It's out of your hands.
Su-Jin............... Except ... there's a way around that. If we marry, control of the Trust immediately transfers to me.
Hyung-Chul....... What you're saying is ...
Su-Jin............... Even without the Yoo's vote, with my support you can be the next President of MBS.
Hyung-Chul....... Why didn't you tell me this before?
Su-Jin............... I hoped you'd love me for myself -- isn't that what every woman wants?
....................... But business is business, and love is love ...
She reaches out and takes his hand in hers.
Su-Jin............... Together, we can save your family legacy ... What do you say? ... Will you marry me?
He looks at her, considering her offer, pondering his options ... then decides there is no harm in keeping the door open.
Hyung-Chul....... Why not come up for a cup of tea, and we'll talk about it?
She nods, and they walk toward the building's entrance.
Looking on, Sun-Mi is shocked with disbelief as she remembers another night, and another invitation ...
FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode13, outside Hyung-Chul's villa]
Hyung-Chul....... You came all the way here, getting soaked in the rain, just to ask a question?
Sun-Mi.............. Perhaps it's presumptuous, after so long ... but has that offer, to come up for tea ... expired?
Hyung-Chul....... Don't you know, that offer will never expire, not for a thousand years ...
|
Watching them go inside, Sun-Mi remarks sarcastically to herself ...
Sun-Mi.............. So, Director Yoon, about your offer 'good for one thousand years' ...
Tears smart in her eyes as she vents her anger ...
Sun-Mi.............. You forgot to mention that it's also 'good for one thousand women' ...
Turning abruptly on her heels, she hurriedly strides back toward the street.
SCENE: Inside Hyung-Chul's villa, night
Su-Jin is sitting on the couch, looking around the studio apartment.
Coming from the kitchen, Hyung-Chul carries two cups of tea.
He has doffed his jacket and tie for a casual sweater.
Hyung-Chul....... Here.
Su-Jin............... Thanks.
He places the cups on the coffee table, as he sits down on the chair opposite Su-Jin.
Su-Jin............... Your place in London was bigger than this.
Hyung-Chul....... It's just a temporary bachelor's pad. I don't need much.
Su-Jin............... Temporary? Then you are already considering getting married? That's a switch. Who is it?
Hyung-Chul....... Actually, she's that 'perfect woman' I told you about.
Su-Jin............... The one who hasn't accepted you yet? Does she have a name?
He doesn't answer.
Su-Jin............... I get it. You don't have to say.
Leaning forward, she picks up her cup to take a sip.
Su-Jin............... As I said earlier, you have a choice ... to marry for business, your family legacy ... or for love.
Hyung-Chul....... I want to find out why the Yoo's changed their vote, before I decide anything.
She nods.
Su-Jin............... Fair enough. I'll wait for your answer.
Hyung-Chul....... And until then?
Su-Jin............... I don't see how this changes anything. I hope we can continue as friends, agreeing to disagree.
Hyung-Chul....... (doubtfully) You're good with that?
She smiles.
Su-Jin............... Now that I'm alone in this world, I want to keep every friend I have.
SCENE: Outside Ms. Song's convenience store, night
A taxi stops outside Jin-Suk's L-25 convenience store.
The rear passenger-side door opens, and Sun-Mi alights.
Turning toward the store, she walks unsteadily, weaving her way toward the entrance.
SCENE: Inside Ms. Song's convenience store, night
Jin-Suk is working the checkout when Sun-Mi staggers into the convenience store.
Jin-Suk looks up, surprised to see Sun-Mi.
Jin-Suk............. Sun-Mi. What are you doing here?
Sun-Mi leans against the counter to keep her balance.
Sun-Mi.............. Aunty, can we talk?
Jin-Suk smells the alcohol on her breath.
Jin-Suk............. Tsk, tsk! How much did you have to drink!
Giggling tipsily, Sun-Mi raises her hand, holding thumb and forefinger a few centimeters apart.
Sun-Mi.............. Just a little ... it was only introduc ... Urp!
Heaving, she covers her mouth with her hand.
Sun-Mi.............. Urp ...
Jin-Suk quickly comes out from behind the counter, and takes Sun-Mi by the arm.
Jin-Suk............. Come on, let's get you to the Washroom ... now!
SCENE: Convenience store washroom, night
[ retching sounds ]
Jin-Suk............. (O.S.) Sun-Mi, are you all right?
[ toilet flushing sounds ]
Sun-Mi.............. (weakly) Aunty ... I'm fine ... urp ...
[ retching sounds ]
SCENE: Outside Ms. Song's convenience store, night
Sun-Mi is sitting at an umbrella table outside the L-25.
With her elbows perched on the tabletop, she rests her head in her hands.
Jin-Suk comes out, carrying a cup of medicine, which she places on the table in front of Sun-Mi.
Jin-Suk............. This will help you feel better.
Sun-Mi raises her head and looks up at Jin-Suk.
Sun-Mi.............. Thanks.
She picks up the cup and takes a sip, making a face.
Jin-Suk............. Drink more.
Sun-Mi sips again, and sets the cup down.
Jin-Suk sits down on the chair next to Sun-Mi.
Jin-Suk............. Why drink so much? This isn't like you, Sun-Mi. What is it?
Sun-Mi lowers her eyes, gazing into her coffee cup.
Sun-Mi.............. Tomorrow I'm choosing my wedding dress. I've hoped for this day most of my life.
She clutches her hand over her heart, as tears roll in her eyes.
Sun-Mi.............. I should be happy, but feel sad, and tears keep welling up ... Aunty, what is wrong with me?
Jin-Suk looks at Sun-Mi with empathy ...
Jin-Suk............. Getting married is a big change. You're facing new concerns and uncertainties.
She takes Sun-Mi's hand in hers and squeezes it encouragingly.
Jin-Suk............. There's nothing wrong about feeling strong emotions at this time.
Sun-Mi.............. (nods) Yes.
Jin-Suk............. Let me take you home. You'll be fine after a good night's sleep. Things will look better tomorrow.
Sun-Mi looks up at Jin-Suk expectantly.
Sun-Mi.............. Aunty, may I stay with you tonight? Daddy is away on business. I don't want to be alone.
Jin-Suk............. Of course you can.
She stands and helps Sun-Mi up onto her feet.
Sun-Mi.............. I remember when I was little, and felt sad because of my mum.
She smiles tepidly through her tears ...
Sun-Mi.............. You'd stay by my bed, holding my hand, and tell me tomorrow will be better, until I fell asleep.
Recalling those times brings tears to Jin-Suk's eyes, too.
Sun-Mi.............. You did so much for me. I'll never forget that.
Jin-Suk............. (affectionately) Sun-Mi ...
Sun-Mi.............. Aunty ...
They both reach out and embrace together.
Joo-Hee is in the cafeteria, eating breakfast alone.
Reminiscing, she recalls the fateful day in London, when her hopes for Hyung-Chul died ...
FLASHBACK [Inside Hyung-Chul's London flat -- Summer, 1994]
Hyung-Chul....... This is Park Su-Jin. She's living with me ...
|
[Buzz ... buzz]
Joo-Hee's mobile rings, interrupting her brooding.
She picks up the phone and opens it. Seeing the caller ID, she snaps it shut and removes the battery.
SCENE: Hyung-Chul's office, morning
Hyung-Chul is at his desk, watching Eve's Morning live on a TV monitor.
Sun-Mi.............. (on the TV) This weekend, a new show is opening at the Seoul ...
Using the remote, he mutes the TV.
He taps a number on his desk phone's keypad, and waits for the call to go through ...
Female voice..... The number you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please try again later. Goodbye.
He puts the phone handset back down on the cradle.
Hyung-Chul....... (musing to himself) Why are you avoiding me, Joo-Hee?
SCENE: MBS Announcer 1 Team office, morning
Sun-Mi is working on her computer when Young-Mi walks in the office.
She notices Sun-Mi at her desk as she goes to the copy machine.
Young-Mi.......... What are you looking at?
Sun-Mi.............. Joo-Hee Senior's magazine article draft.
Young-Mi.......... You're friendly with her lately.
Sun-Mi.............. Does it look like that?
Sun-Mi puts the laptop screen down and picks up some papers, then leaves the office.
Young-Mi waits until she is sure Sun-Mi won't return, then goes over to Sun-Mi's computer and removes the floppy disk.
She holds it for a moment, pondering what she can do to mess with Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee's relationship.
Young-Mi goes to her desk, inserts the diskette into her computer.
She finds the file with Joo-Hee's article and opens it.
The article is titled: "Power Woman -- Living as a 9 O'clock News Anchor"
She deletes the file.
Removing the diskette, Young-Mi closes her computer and stands up.
SCENE: MBS Announcer 1 Team office, morning
LATER THAT MORNING ...
Joo-Hee is reading a paper while Sun-Mi works at her desk. She looks over at Sun-Mi with a tired expression.
Joo-Hee............ Sun-Mi.
Sun-Mi.............. Yes?
Joo-Hee............ You didn't check carefully for mistakes, right? Come over here.
Joo-Hee gestures to Sun-Mi, and Sun-Mi gets up and walks over to Joo-Hee, leaning over her desk for a closer look.
Joo-Hee............ Look here, what's this? 'Morning Program' is written as 'Mourning Program'.
Sun-Mi.............. I'm really sorry, Senior.
Sun-Mi picks up the papers as Joo-Hee lectures her ...
Joo-Hee............ You're not good at doing things right in one shot. (sighs) That's why you're always in trouble ...
Sun-Mi presses her lips tightly together as she accepts the scolding.
Joo-Hee............ ... And people telling you that you have no skills.
Young-Mi enters the office holding some papers, and sees Sun-Mi at Joo-Hee's desk, looking chagrined.
Joo-Hee............ Why are you so clumsy?
Immediately, Young-Mi jumps in ...
Young-Mi.......... Sun-Mi, you should take better care of your discs.
Sun-Mi looks up at Young-Mi with a puzzled expression, wondering what she is talking about.
Young-Mi.......... The draft Joo-Hee wrote is gone?
Young-Mi.......... (to Joo-Hee) Do you have a back up?
Joo-Hee's eyes widen and she looks over at Sun-Mi, who is staring at Young-Mi.
Young-Mi sighs and points to Sun-Mi's computer.
Young-Mi.......... Is this the disc?
Young-Mi sits down at Sun-Mi's computer.
Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee wonder what she is doing.
Young-Mi sighs again...
Young-Mi.......... There aren't any text files or anything.
She looks at Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee.
Young-Mi.......... It's completely gone now.
Upset, Joo-Hee stands at her desk.
Joo-Hee............ What are you saying?
A startled look crosses Young-Mi's face.
Young-Mi.......... Excuse me?
Joo-Hee............ How do you know this file was gone?
Young-Mi.......... Oh umm ... Well ... Since Sun-Mi was being punished, I thought it was because a file was lost.
Joo-Hee............ Yeah. How do you know that?!
Young-Mi stares blankly at her.
Joo-Hee............ You weren't here when I asked Sun-Mi to edit my draft.
Young-Mi is unnerved as she realizes her scheme has backfired.
Young-Mi.......... Uh ... Senior, what are you talking about?
Joo-Hee............ You weren't!
Sun-Mi looks from Young-Mi to Joo-Hee.
Joo-Hee............ (angrily) Sun-Mi's the only one who knows that the draft was on this disc.
....................... How do you know that it's gone?! We didn't know it either.
Sun-Mi looks back at Young-Mi.
Young-Mi.......... (shouting) Then are you saying that I deleted it?!
Joo-Hee............ Huh Young-Mi, lower your voice.
Young-Mi.......... You're suspecting me right now!
Joo-Hee............ (quietly) Yes. You'd know that better, right?
Young-Mi stares at Joo-Hee as she walks out of the room.
Sun-Mi gives Young-Mi a look of disgust, then walks out also.
INTERCUT SCENES: Announcer's office / Seoul prison, morning
MBS Announcer 1 Team office
After Joo-Hee and Sun-Mi leave the office, Young-Mi remains at her desk pondering what to do next, when her cell phone rings.
She picks up and quickly answers ...
Young-Mi.......... Yes?
In-Su's voice echoes over the phone ...
In-Su................ Young-Mi, it's me. Wow, they're even letting me make a phone call.
Seoul prison
In-Su is making the phone call in front of two officers seated at a table.
In-Su................ I was wondering who I should call. I'm going to be out soon.
He laughs evilly.
In-Su................ But until then, have as much fun as you can. I'm hanging up.
MBS Announcer 1 Team office
After In-Su hangs up, Young-Mi sits at her desk, shocked and frightened, uncertain of what to do ...
SCENE: MBS corridor, late morning
Joo-Hee is on her way back to the Announcer 1 Team office, when she sees Su-Jin standing in the corridor.
As she comes closer Su-Jin turns to face her.
Su-Jin............... Anchor Yoo Joo-Hee, may I have a word?
Joo-Hee............ (icily) I have nothing to say to you.
Su-Jin............... But I have something to say to you. Do you prefer here, or somewhere less conspicuous?
Reluctantly, Joo-Hee agrees.
Joo-Hee............ Whatever suits you.
Su-Jin............... Coffee?
SCENE: Street outside MBS, noon
Slowing for a traffic light, Young-M's car erratically brakes to a stop with a loud screech.
A man in the crosswalk pounds on the hood of her car.
Man................. Hey, idiot! Drive properly! Concentrate on the road!
He points at Young-Mi as others walk by in the crosswalk shouting at her, too.
Man................. This girl... I'm telling you she can't concentrate.
Young-Mi breaths deeply, relieved that she had barely avoided a near accident.
Su-Jin and Joo-Hee enter the canteen near the Announcer's office.
Su-Jin............... How do you like yours?
Joo-Hee............ Let's skip the preliminaries, and go directly to business.
Su-Jin............... It's your choice.
They sit down at a table near the window wall.
Joo-Hee............ (coldly) What did you want to say?
Su-Jin............... I know what you think, but Hyung-Chul didn't break off with you because of me.
....................... It was because his parents were trying to control him through you.
Joo-Hee............ Whatever ... I've no interest in rehashing the past with you.
Su-Jin............... Then let's talk about today ...
She pauses for a moment to scrutinize her opponent.
Su-Jin............... Do you think by withholding your vote you can control Hyung-Chul now?
Joo-Hee............ (sharply) That's none of your business!
Su-Jin............... It will be, when Hyung-Chul and I marry.
Hearing this, Joo-Hee scoffs ...
Joo-Hee............ Then you're a fool! Hyung-Chul doesn't love you, and won't marry you. He's using you.
....................... And when you're of no more use, he'll dump you. Like before.
Su-Jin............... Do you think so? But the situation is different this time -- it's not just him and you and me.
....................... There's another party involved.
Joo-Hee............ You mean Jin Sun-Mi? She's not involved ... leave her out of this!
Having so easily gotten the information she wanted from Joo-Hee, Jin-Suk prods her further ...
Su-Jin............... Are you writing a new style love triangle, one where you protect your rival?
....................... Or have you already lost out to her, and indulging an unrequited love?
The accusation touches Joo-Hee's sore nerve regarding Hyung-Chul ...
Joo-Hee............ I think we're finished.
She stands up to leave.
Su-Jin stands too, facing off against Joo-Hee.
Su-Jin............... I'll do whatever I have to do!
Joo-Hee............ Is that a threat?
Su-Jin............... Consider it as you wish ...
She smiles confidently.
Su-Jin............... Have a good day, Anchor Yoo Joo-Hee. I'll be seeing you.
SCENE: MBS corridor, late morning
After leaving the canteen, Su-Jin mulls over the exchange she'd witnessed between Sun-Mi, Woo-Jin, and Hyung-Chul ...
FLASHBACK [ Previous scene from Episode 16 -- at the MBS main entrance ]
Sun-Mi.............. Don't you know? When we're apart, how much I long to be in your arms.
Sun-Mi.............. That’s for being you ... the person I can always trust to be in the right place, at the right time.
Hyung-Chul....... Jin Sun-Mi is one of our announcers. We first met when she came to London, in 1995.
Sun-Mi.............. Woo-Jin Oppa and I go back a long way, too. So much that some see us as more than friends.
|
Su-Jin............... So 'that woman' is Jin Sun-Mi? Perhaps it's time for another 'woman-to-woman' chat.
SCENE: Car repair shop, afternoon
Young-Mi's car is in a repair shop with the hood up. A mechanic is looking in the engine compartment.
Mechanic.......... Let's see here ... your brake oil is used up.
Young-Mi.......... What does that mean?
The mechanic looks at Young-Mi patronizingly ...
Mechanic.......... It happens sometimes to many woman drivers. If you're almost out of oil a light comes on.
....................... But woman drivers don't see it all the time. This is so dangerous and it happens all too often.
Hearing this, Young-Mi starts to concoct another scheme ...
SCENE: Announcer 1 Team office, evening
Joo-Hee is at her desk, typing on her computer when Sun-Mi enters the office, carrying a stack of papers.
Sun-Mi.............. I'm back, Senior.
Joo-Hee............ Did you finish taping your program?
Sun-Mi.............. Yes.
Joo-Hee............ Good.
She starts typing again as Sun-Mi walks to her desk, puts down the papers, and picks up her bag from the floor.
Joo-Hee............ (sighs) Finally!
Hearing Joo-Hee's exclamation, Sun-Mi looks over at her.
Sun-Mi.............. What is it, Senior?
Joo-Hee............ I finished rewriting my paper. Can you check it again for me?
She ejects a diskette from her computer.
Sun-Mi.............. Of course. (joking) This time, I'll guard it with my life!
They both laugh.
Sun-Mi.............. You aren't going to do anything about what happened with Young-Mi?
Joo-Hee............ It doesn't matter. Just forget it.
Sun-Mi frowns, not so willing to 'forgive and forget' ...
Sun-Mi.............. But Young-Mi was trying to cause trouble between us!
Joo-Hee............ Rivalries are part of life in any station. Sometimes people go too far ...
She stands up from her desk, picking up the diskette and some papers as she prepares to leave.
Joo-Hee............ If you let them get to you, it will affect your emotions, and hurt your performance.
....................... Then they will have succeeded. So it's best to put things behind you.
Sun-Mi.............. (nods) You're right, Senior.
Joo-Hee approaches Sun-Mi.
Joo-Hee............ I have to see the writer about tonight's script.
Joo-Hee hands her the diskette.
Joo-Hee............ You don't need to do this now. Go home.
Sun-Mi.............. Actually, I have an appointment soon. I'll make a backup before I leave.
Joo-Hee............ Good idea. I'm going first.
Sun-Mi dips her head respectfully
Sun-Mi.............. Good night, Senior.
She sits down and inserts the diskette into her computer, and begins copying the file to her computer for a backup.
Young-Mi walks into the office, pauses when she sees Sun-Mi, then goes to her desk.
Sun-Mi ejects the diskette and inserts another for the backup.
Sun-Mi.............. Back from the News?
Young-Mi.......... Yes.
Sun-Mi.............. I know you deleted Joo-Hee's file, out of jealousy, but I've decided to forget it.
Young-Mi.......... I don't know what you're talking about.
Sun-Mi ejects the second disk, and looks across the desks at Young-Mi.
Sun-Mi.............. You really haven't changed at all, have you, with your childish schemes?
....................... Whether destroying my three-minute speech, or planting my mobile in the studio.
....................... I pity you, so afraid that you can't compete against me in a fair contest.
Young-Mi.......... Tsst! ... Is a fair contest even possible, given your skill level?
Ignoring the insult, Sun-Mi closes her computer, and stands up.
Sun-Mi.............. Just so you know ... Joo-Hee has decided that I be prepared to follow her on the News.
Young-Mi stares at Sun-Mi, shocked.
Young-Mi.......... She ... she said that to you?
Sun-Mi.............. Ask her if you don't believe me. And then ask yourself, why would she say that?
She smiles smugly.
Sun-Mi.............. Maybe the rumors are true, that next season's News lineup will be changed.
Picking up her bag, she starts off ...
Sun-Mi.............. I have to go out now. Have a nice evening.
After Sun-Mi leaves, Young-Mi leans back in her chair, crossing her arms defiantly as she answers Sun-Mi's challenge ...
Young-Mi.......... So you think you can compete with me for the next season, Jin Sun-Mi?
A contemptuous smile twists her mouth.
Young-Mi.......... But who is ready to replace Yoo Joo-Hee ... tomorrow?
After the Seven O'clock News, Young-Mi puts her scheme into action ...
She descends the stairwell to the parking garage, furtively looking over her shoulder to see if anyone is watching.
SCENE: Fashion boutique, evening
Hyung-Chul walks into the fashion boutique.
[sound of a door chime]
The proprietor, Madame Kim, sees him enter and steps up to greet him.
Madame Kim..... Good evening, Director Yoon.
Hyung-Chul....... I'm here to meet ...
She interrupts him with a smile.
Madame Kim..... The young lady has already arrived. Come with me to the fitting room ...
They walk together a few steps to a closed door.
Madame Kim..... Please wait, while I check inside.
Hyung-Chul....... Of course.
Madame Kim opens the door, and steps inside.
A few seconds later, she invites Hyung-Chul to enter ...
Madame Kim..... (O.S.) You may come in now.
SCENE: Boutique Fitting Room, evening
Hyung-Chul steps inside the fitting room.
The dividing curtain is closed, cued to pique his anticipation to the fullest.
As it dramatically begins to part, Madame Kim enthusiastically pitches the sale ...
Madame Kim..... Isn't she beautiful? ... You're a fortunate man, Director Yoon. Congratulations!
But instead of Young-Mi as he expected, Hyung-Chul is surprised to see it is Sun-Mi -- resplendent in a wedding dress.
Stunned by their unexpected encounter, they just stare at each other, dumbfounded ...
SCENE: Fashion boutique fitting room, night
Instead of Young-Mi modeling a gown for the MBS charity gala, Hyung-Chul walks in on Sun-Mi wearing a wedding dress.
Immediately Madame Kim realizes she has made a BIG mistake.
Madame Kim..... I'm sorry, I just assumed ...
Hyung-Chul....... It's nothing. Miss Jin and I just didn't expect to meet here.
Madame Kim..... Then you came to see ...
Hyung-Chul....... Announcer Huh Young-Mi.
Madame Kim..... Excuse me, I'll find out if she has arrived.
Madame Kim exits the room, leaving Hyung-Chul and Sun-Mi alone together ...
In the awkward situation, struggling for what to say, they both speak up together.
Hyung-Chul....... Sun-Mi ...
Sun-Mi.............. Senior ...
Hyung-Chul....... You go first.
Sun-Mi.............. I intended to tell you before. But it happened so quickly. I'm sorry.
Hyung-Chul....... Don't be. It's my fault, for intruding.
Sun-Mi.............. You're not upset?
Hyung-Chul....... Should I be? You warned me that this day might come. But until it happens, I'll keep waiting.
Sun-Mi.............. Please, don't do this ...
She fights to keep a smile on her lips, to he won't know the pain in her heart.
Sun-Mi.............. I want you to be happy, Senior ... Don't hold back, because of me.
Surprised by her words, he maintains a placid face ...
Hyung-Chul....... Er ... I should go first.
He turns away, then stops and turns back ...
Hyung-Chul....... That other time we were here. Do you remember?
They both think back to the night she had modeled wedding dresses for Joo-Hee in this same room ...
FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 12, in the fashion boutique]
Hyung-Chul....... I just wanted to say ... someday, you’ll make someone a beautiful bride ...
|
Hyung-Chul....... What I said -- seeing you now, like this -- I was right.
He forces a smile.
Hyung-Chul....... Congratulations. I sincerely hope you and Mr. Kim Woo-Jin are happy together.
Fighting to hold in her emotions, Sun-M can barely whisper ...
Sun-Mi.............. Senior, actually ...
Then her throat chokes up completely, stifling further words.
Hyung-Chul waits, but Sun-Mi doesn't say any more.
Hyung-Chul....... Well, then ...
Behind him, heel clicks sound in the corridor.
Madame Kim appears in the doorway.
Madame Kim..... Excuse me, Director Yoon. Miss Huh Young-Mi is here now.
Hyung-Chul....... Thank you. I was just about to come out.
As he is speaking Young-Mi steps into the room.
When she sees Sun-Mi, she feigns surprise ...
Young-Mi.......... Jin Sun-Mi, what's this?! ... You -- and Woo-Jin? (sarcastically) What a surprise!
Sun-Mi.............. Ehm ...
Young-Mi.......... (pained) His mother always preferred that you be her daughter-in-law. She must be very happy.
Sun-Mi.............. (brief, uneasy coughs)
Hyung-Chul intervenes to cut short the uncomfortable exchange, turning to Young-Mi ...
Hyung-Chul....... Let's go.
As they leave together, Madame Kim comes over to Sun-Mi.
Madame Kim..... I'm truly sorry about the mix-up.
Sun-Mi.............. It's all right. Director Yoon would've found out soon anyway.
Madame Kim..... Do you like the gown?
Sun-Mi.............. (nods) It's beautiful.
Madame Kim..... I'll call someone in to assist you.
SCENE: Fashion boutique, night
Hyung-Chul and Young-Mi walk together to the other fitting room ...
Young-Mi.......... Being so close since childhood, I suppose it was inevitable.
Hyung-Chul looks at her, but doesn't say anything.
Young-Mi.......... Still it's a shock to face the reality you'd hoped to never see.
Hyung-Chul....... Announcer Huh, if you're upset, perhaps you should do this another time?
She quickly adjusts ...
Young-Mi.......... Oh ... No, it's all right. I have to put the Gala, and what it means to the children, first.
Hyung-Chul....... (nods) If you say so.
She smiles.
Young-Mi.......... There are so many dresses to choose from. I definitely need your help ...
SCENE: Announcer 1 Team office, night
After doing the News At Nine broadcast, Joo-Hee returns to the Announcers' office to close up for the day.
Sitting at her desk, she reflects on what Su-Jin said to her that morning ...
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 16, in the canteen]
Su-Jin............... Hyung-Chul broke up with you because his parents were trying to control him through you. ....................... Do you think by withholding your vote you can control Hyung-Chul now?
|
Joo-Hee............ Who does she think she is ... acting like she knows me!
But then she recalls what Hyung-Chul told her, years ago, on the first night she did the Seven O'clock News ...
FLASHBACK [Scene from Episode 01, in a bar after work]
Hyung-Chul....... Do you know why I said I wouldn't get engaged to you? ....................... You know too much about me. And I hate that you act like you know more than you actually do.
|
Joo-Hee............ (musing aloud) Maybe Su-Jin's right ...
She sighs.
Joo-Hee............ Why can't I just let him go ... forget him?
SCENE: Fashion boutique fitting room, night
Wearing a different dress, Young-Mi comes out and does a full 360 in front of the mirror ...
Young-Mi.......... How do you like this one?
Hyung-Chul briefly glances up, then returns to reading the report he'd taken out of his briefcase.
Hyung-Chul....... Mmm ... It's fine.
Young-Mi.......... It fits me nicely, but the slit in the skirt might be a bit too revealing.
She strikes a provocative pose, hoping to entice his interest ...
Young-Mi.......... What do you think, Director Yoon?
He flips a page, not bothering to look up as he blandly replies ...
Hyung-Chul....... If you feel that way, put it aside.
Frustrated, she gives up.
Young-Mi.......... Fine. There's still a few more to see. Then we can decide, okay?
Hyung-Chul....... Mmm-hmmm ...
SCENE: MBS car parking garage, night
Leaving the office, Joo-Hee goes to her car.
She starts the engine, then pulls out of the parking spot.
Turning a corner, she steps on the brakes, but the car fails to slow down.
Frantically, she pumps the brakes without effect, trying to regain control, until the car slams into a concrete wall.
The airbag fails to deploy, and Joo-Hee knocks her head against the door frame.
Unconscious, she slumps against the steering wheel.
SCENE: Fashion boutique fitting room, night
Although Hyung-Chul eyes are fixed on a page of the business magazine he's reading, his mind is elsewhere.
He smiles to himself, recalling the embarrassed look on Sun-Mi's face when he walked in ...

His reverie is interrupted when Young-Mi comes out from the dressing room, wearing a different gown ...
Noticing Hyung-Chul's smile, she expects a better response this time.
Again, she strikes a sultry pose, hoping to catch and hold his attention ...
Young-Mi.......... Director Yoon? Isn't this a nice color?
Hyung-Chul....... Umm ...
Young-Mi.......... I think this dress suits me the best so far, don't you?
Hyung-Chul....... Umm ...
Young-Mi.......... (exasperated) Don't you have any opinions?!
Hyung-Chul....... All that's important is you like the dress and are comfortable wearing it.
....................... In the end, you're the one who will have to face the public perception.
Young-Mi.......... That's why I asked you to come, to give me that perception.
He looks up slowly, his expression stern ...
Hyung-Chul....... In that case, these dresses are more suited for the MBS Drama Awards red carpet than the Gala.
....................... What is your point, to focus attention on yourself, or the children's need?
Chastened by his harsh appraisal, she stammers a reply ...
Young-Mi.......... Why ... uh ... it's the children ... um ... of course.
Hyung-Chul....... Good! Then the dress isn't that important, so you ...
[ Bzzz ... Bzzz ]
His mobile announces an incoming call.
He takes the phone from his pocket, flips it open, and answers ...
Hyung-Chul....... Yes?
Shock wipes the annoyance from his face.
Hyung-Chul....... What? ... Where? ... Yes, I'll come immediately.
Snapping the phone shut, he stands up to leave.
Hyung-Chul....... (to Young-Mi) I have to go. It's an emergency.
Young-Mi.......... What happened?
Hyung-Chul....... Yoo Joo-Hee was injured in a car accident.
Young-Mi.......... But the dress ...
Hyung-Chul....... Choose whatever one you like. Madame Kim knows my account number.
He rushes out the door.
Alone, Young-Mi stares at her image in the mirror, berating herself for her poor timing ...
In an effort to secure her professional goals, she has advertently set back her personal ones.
Lights flashing and siren blaring, an ambulance rushes Joo-Hee to the hospital emergency room.
SCENE: Hospital corridor, night
Hyung-Chul runs through the hospital to meet up with Sun-Dal.
Hyung-Chul....... What's her condition?
Sun-Dal............ Well, she's in a lot of pain. But the results are going to be out in a bit.
SCENE: Hospital waiting room, night
Hyung-Chul and Sun-Dal sit in the waiting room for word about Joo-Hee's condition.
Sun-Dal's face is wrought with worry and guilt.
Hyung-Chul....... Why the long face? What aren't you telling me?
Sun-Dal............ I'm afraid it's all my fault.
Hyung-Chul....... What?!
Sun-Dal............ This morning, Joo-Hee asked me to look at her car. She said it wasn't driving right.
....................... I found her brakes were worn, but I didn’t send the car in for repairs.
Hyung-Chul....... Why not?
Sun-Dal............ It didn't seem that bad, and I wanted a reason to go out with her tonight after work.
Hyung-Chul....... Are you sure it was the brakes?
Sun-Dal............ Yes. Joo-Hee said she pushed the pedal, but nothing happened. The car didn't slow down at all.
Hyung-Chul....... That seems odd. Worn brakes don't just completely fail that way.
Sun-Dal............ Is it puzzling. I'll check with the repair shop, and find out what happened.
A doctor comes into the room.
Doctor.............. Director Yoon Hyung-Chul?
Hyung-Chul....... Yes?
Doctor.............. We've completed the examinations on Yoo Joo-Hee.
Sun-Dal............ How bad is it?
Doctor.............. A small fracture of her leg, and a mild concussion.
....................... We'll keep her under observation for a few days, in case the concussion is more serious.
Hyung-Chul....... Of course.
Doctor.............. You can visit in her room now, but keep it brief. She needs rest.
Sun-Dal............ Yes.
Doctor.............. Call my office if you have any questions.
Hyung-Chul....... Thank you, we will.
Doctor.............. I'll be leaving first, then.
SCENE: MBS Announcer 1 Team office, morning
THE NEXT MORNING ...
Kyung-Hee, and Ki-Jong are standing together, talking with Sun-Mi.
Sun-Mi's eyes widen with surprise.
Sun-Mi.............. What? Senior Joo-Hee was in a car accident?
Young-Mi, working at her desk, feigns ignorance, chiming in ...
Young-Mi.......... How did it happen?
Ki-Jong............. Last night, as Joo-Hee was leaving the parking garage, the car's brakes failed.
....................... She hit a wall pretty hard, damaging the car, and knocking her unconscious.
Sun-Mi recalls her own experience when she was knocked unconscious by Hyung-Chul's car ...
FLASHBACK [Previous scene from Episode 03, in London]
|
Sun-Mi.............. Oh my! Is she seriously hurt?
Kyung-Hee........ Manager Kim called from the hospital this morning, to say Joo-Hee was stable and resting.
As if on cue, Sun-Dal enters the office. His suit is rumpled, and he has a second-day stubble.
Ki-Jong............. (jokingly) Gee, what happened to you? It looks like you ran into a wall, too!
Sun-Dal frowns, displeased by the flippant remark on a serious matter, walks up and collars Ki-Jong.
Sun-Dal............ How would you like to have your face hit a wall?
Ki-Jong............. Gee ... it was just a joke. No need to get testy.
Sun-Dal lets go of him.
Sun-Dal............ Sorry. Things are a bit frazzled right now, and I'm dead tired.
Sun-Mi.............. You stayed with Senior Joo-Hee all night?
He grins self-consciously.
Sun-Dal............ Someone had to. Her parents are traveling overseas.
Ki-Jong............. Hmmm ... Is this a sign of 'something else' going on in our office?
Sun-Dal............ (coughs, red-faced) I'm just concerned for her, is all ... as a Supervisor, of course.
Kyung-Hee smiles at his transparent denial.
Kyung-Hee........ Um hmm.
She and Ki-Jong exchange a knowing glance, as Sun-Mi belatedly catches on.
Sun-Mi.............. Senior. Really?
Sun-Dal gives up the charade.
Sun-Dal............ Don't say anything, please, especially to Joo-Hee, until I confess to her.
Ki-Jong............. My lips are zipped.
He humorously runs his finger over his mouth, as they all share a laugh.
Meanwhile, Young-Mi glowers at them from her desk.
Kyung-Hee........ How long will Joo-Hee stay in the hospital?
Sun-Dal............ A few days, for observation.
Sun-Mi.............. Let's go to visit Senior Joo-Hee today.
Kyung-Hee........ Yes. I'll get flowers.
She turns to look at Young-Mi.
Kyung-Hee........ Young-Mi? Will you come, too?
Young-Mi glances up from her laptop momentarily, but continues typing as she answers ...
Young-Mi.......... (coldly) I can't. I have to prepare for the News.
Kyung-Hee........ We should be back with plenty of time for that.
Young-Mi.......... I'm talking about the News At Nine ...
Everyone turns and stares at Young-Mi, stunned at her brazen statement ...
Kyung-Hee........ Huh Young-Mi! ... Are you saying you'll take Joo-Hee's place?!
Young-Mi.......... (embarrassed) I mean ... someone has to do it, right? What if they choose me? I need to be ready.
Sun-Dal............ She has a point. The Executives are meeting later, to decide what to do.
....................... They asked for my recommendations, but it could be any one of the announcers.
He points to Sun-Mi.
Sun-Dal............ Even you, Sun-Mi.
She lowers her eyes.
Sun-Mi.............. Senior, I'm hardly ready to take on that responsibility.
From her desk, Young-Mi scoffs ...
Young-Mi.......... Finally, someone is speaking sensibly.
Sun-Dal shakes his head.
Sun-Dal............ What's got into Young-Mi today?
He rubs his finger tips over his facial stubble.
Sun-Dal............ I'm going down first, to get cleaned up. See you in the Eve's Morning studio in a few minutes.
As Sun-Dal leaves, Ki-Jong looks up at the wall clock.
Ki-Jong............. (surprised) Is it that late already?
Kyung-Hee........ Come on, everyone. The PD will be wondering where we all are ...
SCENE: MBS Conference Room, afternoon
Hyung-Chul, Sun-Dal, and Eun-Ki are seated with their staffs around the conference table.
Hyung-Chul....... The doctors are recommending that Yoo Joo-Hee take several days off to recover.
Eun-Ki.............. So who will replace her on the News?
Hyung-Chul....... I asked Manager Kim for a list of candidates.
Sun-Dal............ We have only two announcers with news experience, who are not currently assigned ...
....................... Jin Sun-Mi and Bae Hee-Sun.
Eun-Ki.............. I thought Bae Hee-Sun was resigning to get married.
Sun-Dal............ She's agreed to stay on another week or two, if we need her.
Eun-Ki.............. Still, she's only done weekends, and weren't the ratings so-so?
Sun-Dal............ Yes, but ...
Eun-Ki.............. And Jin Sun-Mi? Are you serious? After those incidents, how can she be considered qualified?
Sun-Dal............ Well, lately Joo-Hee has been working with Sun-Mi to improve her skills, and ...
Ignoring Sun-Dal's attempted justification, Eun-Ki turns his attention onto Hyung-Chul ...
Eun-Ki.............. Director Yoon, is this the best you can do after spending so lavishly on training?
....................... The News At Nine is too important to give to just anyone, even in an emergency!
Hyung-Chul....... What do you recommend, then?
Eun-Ki.............. Who has the best ratings?
Sun-Dal............ That's Huh Young-Mi. The Seven O'clock News is up since she replaced Joo-Hee.
Hyung-Chul....... How can Young-Mi realistically do both news slots, along with Eve's Morning?
Eun-Ki.............. Put Hee-Sun in Young-Mi's place at Seven.
Hyung-Chul....... Do we want to completely change our nightly news lineup, for a few days exigency?
Eun-Ki.............. That's a good point. If Huh Young-Mi does well, let's make her the permanent host at Nine.
Sun-Dal............ But ... Yoo Joo-Hee ...
Eun-Ki.............. I've heard she's considering another position overseas, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Surprised, Sun-Dal looks to Hyung-Chul for confirmation.
Hyung-Chul....... Nothing's decided yet.
Eun-Ki.............. Then it's settled ...
He checks his watch.
Eun-Ki.............. Let's reconvene again tonight. Manager Kim, have Announcer Huh join us then.
SPLIT SCENES: Announcer 1 Team office / Director Kim's office, evening
Young-Mi is at her desk, alone in the Announcers office, when her mobile rings.
Young-Mi.......... Yes? ... Oh, Director Kim? What is it?
Eun-Ki.............. Are you alone?
Young-Mi.......... Yes.
Eun-Ki.............. It's done, like I promised you this morning.
Young-Mi.......... Really?!
Eun-Ki.............. Yes. You'll be taking over the News At Nine tonight. Permanently, if the ratings are good.
Young-Mi.......... Thank you, Director! ... But, what about Yoo Joo-Hee?
Eun-Ki.............. We'll find another position, or she can go back to doing Seven.
Young-Mi smiles , thinking of the humiliation a public demotion would place on Joo-Hee ...
Eun-Ki.............. When we meet later, act as if you know nothing.
Young-Mi.......... I understand.
Eun-Ki.............. I look after those who are loyal to me. Remember that.
Young-Mi.......... I won't forget.
Eun-Ki.............. I'm glad we understand each other.
Young-Mi.......... Yes.
Eun-Ki.............. That's all.
She closes her mobile and places it on her desk as Sun-Mi comes into the office.
Sun-Mi.............. Oh ... you're still here?
Young-Mi.......... I was just about to go to do the News.
She gathers the pages of her news script and stands.
Young-Mi.......... Did you just come from the hospital?
Sun-Mi.............. About thirty minutes ago.
Young-Mi.......... How is Joo-Hee Senior?
Sun-Mi.............. Much better. Fortunately, she didn't have a serious concussion after all.
....................... She wants to get back to work as soon as possible.
Young-Mi.......... Tell her there's no hurry. The News will go on, whether she is here, or not.
Young-Mi's disparaging attitude upsets Sun-Mi.
Sun-Mi.............. (forcefully) Huh Young-Mi! How can you say that!
Smug about Eun-Ki's promise, Young-Mi gloats ...
Young-Mi.......... It appears the rumors about the News announcers changing may be true after all.
Recalling Young-Mi's intent already that morning to be doing the News At Nine, Sun-Mi regards her thoughtfully.
Sun-Mi.............. What do you know, Young-Mi, that you're not saying?
Realizing that she was careless, Young-Mi feigns ignorance.
Young-Mi.......... Er ... I overheard some people gossiping, that's all. Sorry, I can't stay to chit-chat ...
Abruptly, she walks out, before Sun-Mi can question her further.
After Young-Mi leaves, Sun-Mi ponders the situation, and her intuitive sense that something was up ...
Sun-Mi.............. Could Young-Mi have been scheming all along, to take the News At Nine from Joo-Hee?
She picks up her bag and heads out the doorway, in her haste bumping into Jin-Soo as he enters.
Jin-Soo............. Where are you going in such a rush?
Sun-Mi.............. Back to the hospital, to get Yoo Joo-Hee, before it's too late!
SCENE: MBS 10F lift lobby, evening
After the Seven O'clock News, Young-Mi walks up to the door of the conference room.
She pauses briefly, before knocking.
SCENE: MBS Executive Conference Room, evening
Hyung-Chul, Sun-Dal, and Eun-Ki are meeting in the conference room, when they hear a knock.
Hyung-Chul looks towards the door.
Hyung-Chul....... Come in, Miss Huh Young-Mi.
The door opens, and Young-Mi enters, bowing respectfully.
Eun-Ki.............. Ah, Young-Mi. We just started our meeting. It seems like you'll have to take the 9 o'clock news.
Hyung-Chul and Sun-Dal look up at Young-Mi for her response.
She feigns being flustered.
Young-Mi.......... I can't ...
Hyung-Chul is surprised by her uncharacteristically diffident attitude.
Young-Mi.......... No matter how much you need it, I can't take it instead of Joo-Hee ...
She shakes her head.
Young-Mi.......... I can't.
Sun-Dal looks away, unconvinced by her sudden humility.
Hyung-Chul....... I understand how you feel, but we have no one else. There's still a month until the new season.
....................... Since you've done the 7 o'clock news for a long time, there shouldn't be any difficulties adjusting.
Young-Mi.......... Still ... Joo-Hee Senior's hurt, so I don't think it's right of me to take her spot.
Eun-Ki.............. Miss Huh, you need to be confident.
Young-Mi looks down reluctantly, as they'd discussed previously.
Hyung-Chul....... Miss Huh, please do as we ask. It's for the sake of the company.
She hesitates before replying ...
Young-Mi.......... If ... you really need it ...
Hurried footsteps sound outside in the corridor.
Sun-Mi and Joo-Hee arrive in a rush at the conference room door.
Joo-Hee is using a crutch, while Sun-Mi grasps her arm to assist her.
Sun-Mi.............. Careful.
Sun-Dal stands up and heads over to the door, as the others also stand, surprised by her appearance.
Sun-Dal............ Yoo Joo-Hee, what happened?
Joo-Hee............ I'm sorry ... I just injured my leg. It won't have any effect on doing the news.
Hyung-Chul looks relieved.
Young-Mi.......... Eh ... (nervously laughs) ... That's such a relief ...
She smiles at Joo-Hee.
Young-Mi.......... I was so worried.
Joo-Hee regards Young-Mi's display of concern skeptically.
Young-Mi shifts uneasily under Joo-Hee's glare, frustrated that her ploy has gone awry.
Watching and listening, Sun-Mi realizes she was right once again about Young-Mi's duplicity.
Turning her eyes to Sun-Mi, Young-Mi realizes that she had seen through her scheme, and warned Joo-Hee.
SCENE: Young-Mi's apartment, night
LATER THAT NIGHT ...
Joo-Hee is announcing on the News At Nine as Young-Mi watches on her apartment TV ...
Joo-Hee............ (on TV) The West Coast is suffering from excessive sand collection.
Young-Mi is sitting on her bed, eating from a bowl, still angry over her lost opportunity.
Joo-Hee............ An environmental investigation was requested by the Marine department.
....................... If the sand increases any further this could have terrible ramifications. Lee Yung-Sun reports.
Reporter Lee..... (on TV) Here, I'm standing on the west coast where ...
After the News At Nine broadcast is done, Sun-Dal sends Joo-Hee home in his car.
Indulging her, he helps to fasten the seatbelt.
Joo-Hee............ Senior.
Sun-Dal............ I know, "You don't have to drive me." That's what you wanted to say, right?
Sun-Dal puts his seat belt on. Joo-Hee looks away and smiles.
Sun-Dal............ Yoo Joo-Hee, did you know? ...
They look at each other.
Sun-Dal............ Ever since you came here I've never left work earlier than you ...
Joo-Hee looks away as he takes a deep breath, preparing to confess his feelings.
Sun-Dal............ Even if Yoo Joo-Hee isn't here the news still goes on.
Joo-Hee looks at Sun-Dal and nods, then looks away again.
Joo-Hee............ Of course it does.
Sun-Dal looks away so he can focus on his words.
Sun-Dal............ But if Yoo Joo-Hee isn't here Kim Sun-Dal can't go on ...
She looks at him with surprise. Sun-Dal turns to face her and laughs nervously.
Sun-Dal............ If you're going to be in an accident again, then put me in a hospital bed first.
Joo-Hee smiles and laughs, too.
Sun-Dal............ (relieved) Let's go.
Happily, he starts the car and drives off.
To Be Continued...
