INTRODUCTION

A Spring Apart follows the All About Eve drama through Episodes 16 to 18, spanning the year from Sun-Mi's 25th birthday in June to the sixth anniversary of their London accident the next summer.

The story opens with a dawn rendezvous by the Han River, as Sun-Mi informs Hyung-Chul that loyalty to 'family' comes first, and she must leave him to help Woo-Jin, whom she may even marry. Stunned, Hyung-Chul resigns himself to accept her decision, but promises that unless she marries, he will wait for her.

Thus begins the longest separation of their relationship since Hyung-Chul returned to Seoul, a period succinctly alluded to in Sun-Mi's poignant reading from a book of poetry in the Music Postcards radio broadcasting studio, while Hyung-Chul longingly watches ...

"During the months since I broke up with you,

"I couldn't let my heart settle and I was really confused.

"This spring will be a spring apart from each other."

Much like their earlier 'Cold War', this lengthy estrangement tests their commitment and love through a series of incidents that engender increasing doubts and misconstrued motives, culminating in a breakup that neither Sun-Mi nor Hyung-Chul desires, but is convinced the other wants.

The Episode 18 scene in CREAM Cake House parallels their first breakup in Episode 9 -- which occurs after Sun-Mi learns of Hyung-Chul's real identity from Young-Mi, embarrassing her as being the last to know -- and is intended to make believable Sun-Mi's decision to break up again. Yet it strains credulity that, after years of dealing with her rival's duplicity, Sun-Mi so easily falls for Young-Mi's trick. Which raises the question of what else may transpired, outside the scripted story, to make Young-Mi's remark seem credible.

It is left to the viewer to construct an answer to this question, and to others that arise in these Episodes. What confrontations, plot twists, misunderstandings, and 'coincidences' happened during the days, weeks, and months-long gaps between scenes that so subverted trust and made betrayal so plausible? ... Beyond a few hints, the writer leaves the slate blank.

Filling in the 'rest of the story' was the impetus behind this third part to the extended, or 'uncut' version of AAE. The original episodes are divided into parts and expanded to accommodate the new scenes and dialog, printed in blue text to distinguish them from the original scenes and dialog, which are property of MBS and YesAsia respectively.

Please enjoy this continuation of All About Eve, a story of True Love between the True Hearts of Jin Sun-Mi and Yoon Hyung-Chul.
