It was almost 6:30 am when Hyung-Chul arrived home in the cab, his clothes damp after waiting the wee hours of the morning outside Sun-Mi's gate, watching the light in her window in the light drizzle, sending telepathic messages between spates of directing the drivers of a stream of arriving delivery trucks where to unload.
Unable to sleep, he settles into a living room chair to sort through the coming day.
"Well, that's done. It would put any woman in a receptive mood," he congratulates himself on his cleverness. "Next is the ring, and ..."
The phone rings, interrupting him.
"Yes, Dad ..."
"Director Yoo is furious! Everything we've worked for is at risk! Are you going to do something about it?"
"Of course, I'm attending Joo-Hee's wedding ceremony."
"Cut the crap! Think of your mother ..."
Hyung-Chul interrupts him, pointedly stating, "Yes ... I miss her too ..."
"That's enough!" his father bellows. "Did Joo-Hee do this because of your scandal with that 'other' woman?"
Upset at the slight to Sun-Mi, Hyung-Chul barely keeps his cool, and bluntly announces his intentions, "Jin Sun-Mi? After paying my respects to her father, I'll bring her home ..."
The direct challenge sets his father railing against the insubordination. "You know this matter with Joo-Hee won't stand. So don't make statements that later you'll regret," Chairman Yoon cautions his headstrong son from any impetuous moves. "We'll discuss this in my office. Tomorrow!"
"Sure," Hyung-Chul goes along, his resolve undeterred.
Putting the handset back in it's cradle, he reflects on where this latest development is headed, deciding he won't back down to threats.
"By tomorrow, Father, if everything goes well, it will be too late to stop me."
