"Did you see the headlines?"

 

Kim Eun-Ki tosses the newspaper down on the coffee table so Eun-Hee can read the front page...

Sympathy Surge Follows Actress' Suicide Attempt

 

"Someone almost died! This isn't what I wanted," he states emphatically.

 

"I didn't expect So-Won to be suicidal," she shrugs. "Or Hyung-Chul to exhibit such prescience."

 

 

Eun-Ki fills a tumbler with Jim Beam from the bar, then grabs the bottle and sits down on the chair across from Eun-Hee. He chugs his drink down in a few gulps and refills it.

 

"Get a handle on yourself," she advises him. "This is war."

 

"But how far are you willing to go to win?"

 

"I'll stop at nothing," she declares.

 

Eun-Ki empties his glass again and shakes his head in despondently.

 

"I thought for certain we had Director Yoon down for the count this time," he grumbles, "How can anyone have such good luck?"

 

"Maybe it was luck, maybe not," she weighs the alternatives. "The whole thing seems pretty coincidental to me."

 

Eun-Ki is astonished. "You're accusing Director Yoon of staging a suicide attempt... for ratings?"

 

"I was just saying, but I wouldn't put it past him." she confirms her conclusion. "But whether it was real or faked is immaterial," Eun-Hee reasons. "Making So-Won a sympathetic figure has insulated her from further criticism from the media... for now."

 

"But if it WERE true, that would be a bigger scandal than the first!" Eun-Ki exclaims, thinking of the possibilities.

 

"Don't bother," Eun-Hee immediately deflates his hopes. "Hyung-Chul won't have left any traces to uncover."

 

"Then what can we do to beat him?"

 

"This is just another round, we're not knocked out yet," she declares.

 

 

Eun-Hee's cell phone buzzes, and she quits talking to answer it...

 

"Yes... I see... Let me know as soon as you confirm it," Eun-Ki hears her half of the conversation. Curious, he asks, "What was that all about?"

 

She smiles. "Round two has just started..."

 

"Care to fill me in?"

 

"My investigators have uncovered something else about Park So-Won's time in the US," she replies cagily.

 

"Something, as in..." he prompts.

 

"A place called Saint Annette's Home for Unwed Mothers..."
