Although I mentioned that "PD&SY" was to be my last story for
2003, I wrote this as a special edition dedicated to all my FB friends. This is
"Auld Lang Syne" for 2003!

Sun Mi and Hyung Chul's baby girl was born on New Year Day. They were both
totally unprepared for the stork's delivery as it was not due for another 2
weeks. They had attended a dinner at his father's house and had returned late
to their own home. Her water bag broke just as they were about to retire for
the night. Hyung Chul had thought he was well prepared for this day. He had
told Sun Mi boastfully that he would not panic. He would have everything down
pat - from her bag to his car key.
However, while Sun Mi was a picture of calm, he lost his head! Breaking out in
sweat, he frantically searched for his car key. Sun Mi had to remind him that
she has a spare one in her handbag. He had insisted on giving her a spare key
just in case he couldn't find his.
"Sanbaeneem, calm down! We still have time."
"Ok! I'm calm." He took a deep breath and smiled at his wife.
"Okay. I'll call your doctor to tell him were on our way. Where is your
bag?"
She reminded him, "The bag is in the closet where you had placed it."
Sun Mi took his hand. "Are you sure you're calm enough to drive?"
He pinched her cheek. "Of course I'm calm. Have you forgotten your husband
is Director of Planning? I've got everything planned. All you have to do is get
yourself dressed up and ready to go."
"Sanbaeneem! I'm going to the hospital to deliver your baby! Why would I
need to dress up for?"
"Right then. You wait here. I'll come back for you. Where's my
phone?"
Sun Mi rolled her eyes. Yet she could not help laughing at her husband's
chaotic state.
Hyung Chul dashed downstairs with Sun Mi's bag and got into his car. He checked
the petrol tank and pulled the front passenger seat forward so that Sun Mi
would have more room in the back.
He started the engine and reversed the car out.
Sun Mi heard him driving out the driveway. She slowly got up from the bed and
walked to the window.
She hurried back to get her cell phone.
"Sanbaeneem! You've forgotten your wife!"
*********
On her first day home from hospital, Hyung Chul fretted over Sun Mi like a
mother hen. Their house had been like a hotel the minute they had arrived home
with the tiniest addition to their family. The endless stream of family and
friends popping over to see mother and baby were worrying Hyung Chul. He was
afraid that Sun Mi would be too exhausted to rest. He finally had to put his
foot down and insist they give his wife a chance to rest. He promised that he
would hold a celebration after Sun Mi has regained her health.
After everyone has left and the baby in the care of the nanny, Hyung Chul
carried Sun Mi to their room. They had bought a crib for the baby and had
placed it in their room.
Gently depositing his precious load on the bed, he sat down beside his wife.
Taking her hand, he held it against his cheek.
"Ow!" Sun Mi pulled her hand away. "Are you punishing me
again?"
He laughed. "Sorry! I'm not punishing you. Instead, I'm going to have to
reward you for giving me such a beautiful daughter." He took her hand
again. "She's just as exquisite as her mother."
Hyung Chul could now understand how much his father-in-law loves his daughter.
When he set eyes on his daughter for the very first time in the labour room,
his heart swelled with love for her and for his very dear wife. He had seen how
much Sun Mi has had to endure to give birth to their daughter. He loves her
even more for having gone through so much just so that he could be a father.
Sun Mi smiled and touched his cheek. "With this baby, I already have
everything. I don't need anything else." She turned serious. "No,
scratch that! There is something I want."
"What! Just name it."
"I want you to promise that no matter what, we'll always be a family. That
your daughter and I will always have your love."
Hyung Chul felt a lump welling in his throat. He gathered her close to his
heart and promised Sun Mi a love he knew would never be extinguished till
kingdom come!
THE END.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL MY VERY DEAR FB FRIENDS!!!!!
